Non-bio detergents

I have been given a lot of fairy non-bio gels as samples to use (one bigger bottle in a bounty pack) and I just wanted to know if you recommend any others when these finish? E.g own brands from tesco/aldi/asda etc. Also, do you use fabric softener (fairy again). I have always used it on my clothes but wasn't sure on babies! Sorry first baby so just wanting to check! Thanks x

I only use fairy non bio pods for my baby's clothes and wash his stuff separately to ours. I also use the fairy fabric softener with it.

Lovely, thank you :) x

Powders, non-bio or otherwise, always wash better than liquids and pods. And they don’t cause a mouldy build up in the washer either

I disagree on powders. Some powders don't dusolve properly in modern washing machines which are designed to use less water and lower temperatures.

I use boots own-brand laundry liquid. There is also a brand called filletti that is good but the liquid is harder to find than the powder. Both these are much milder on sensitive skin than the non-bio versions of big brands - which bring DH and DC out in rashes.

Imchlibob that will only happen if you’re using quick wash all the time or using too much powder.

Powders contain oxygen based bleaching agents which keep colours bold, whites bright and help with stain removal and hygiene. It’s been proven a million times that constant low temperature washing with liquids causes mould build up around the seal and outer tub of the washing machine

The other thing I've read is that it's not the enzymes which are an irritant in bio powder, but the perfume. Supermarket own brand detergents tend to have less perfume than some of the big brands.

EcoCleaner · 19/05/2018 11:02

wowfudge that’s correct. Non-bio is manufactured to have less scent.

There’s a brand called Neutral which makes biological detergents with no scent, dyes or optical brighteners which all cause irritation

I used bio on babies. No issues.

Which proves the point ragged. You need a really effective detergent for baby clothes, etc.
