Are they any good? Anyone have any recommendations? Been thinking about getting one but dont want to waste money if they are not worth it!!

Great for a quick clean-up and they leave the floor damp-dry rather than fairly wet like the older "squeezy" mops.

lmx0 · 09/05/2018 13:00

@SlightlyAntique ohh thats good do they clean better than a mop would? Or is it just like a plug in mop that does the same job?

Plug-in mop is a very apt description! The steam is said to sanitise as well as take up the dirt. The pads can be rinsed in the washer or by hand.

lmx0 · 09/05/2018 18:54

Ohh thats handy any knowledge about the fancy ones that come with all the bits for cleaning tiles and so forth?

I have the Karcher SC3 which works wonders on my floor and lifts the dirt up really well. It comes with a couple of attachments for cleaning upholstery, the oven, skirting boards etc, I even use it to blast the crud that gets caught in the seal and hinges of the dishwasher, so it's really handy when I have a load of things that need a clean as you can just whip the different attachments on and off.

As a PP said, you can rinse the cleaning pads as you go along when they get dirty, but the only down side is that they get flipping hot!! DP always knows I'm steam cleaning something when he can head "ouch, argh, oohfff" 😂 Couldn't do without it though!

millymae · 09/05/2018 19:09

I don’t use mine anymore. Too much faff to get it out, put the pad on (which was tight fit and needed to to be attached properly to prevent it falling off) remove the water tank, fill it up and re-attach, plug it in and wait for it to heat up, push it round the kitchen, then do everything in reverse order with the addition of having to wash the filthy mop head.
The floor never looked any cleaner than when I used an ordinary mop, plus it took twice as long to do. The only bonus was that the floor dried more quickly.
It may be that my steam mop wasn’t top of the range (it came from Aldi) but a more up market model would have to be considerably better before I would say it was worth having.

lmx0 · 09/05/2018 19:19

@MoanaofMotunui ohh thats handy get a good few things done in one go then 😂 i would be me
@millymae sounds like the type of thing that you'd need to a good few jobs as there would be no point in getting it out just for the floors as you say there would be too much faff
I think may ask around n see if any family members or anyone i know have one i could borrow give it a go n see how i get on maybe

I really like mine, much less faff than a mop and bucket in my view and gets floors adequately clean - takes a bit f pressure to get rid of dried on baby mush though.

gingercat02 · 09/05/2018 20:02

I love mine although I don't use the attachments as much as I thought I would. Mine is the H2O green one. You aren't meant to use them on laminate or wood floor btw

lmx0 · 09/05/2018 22:08

@londonloves no more so than with a mop im sure
@gingercat02 oh really why is that?

OP posts:
Dodie66 · 09/05/2018 22:11

I had an H20 green one too. It made the floors too wet and after only using it a few times it got clogged up and wouldn’t work. I alsomused it on the cooker hob etc but again there was a lot of water. I just couldn’t get on with it

lmx0 · 09/05/2018 22:20

@Dodie66 ohh thats not good!! Thats just giving you more work!!!

I bought a Russel Hobbs one, it's miles better than a manual mop. £30 I think it was. The pads can be thrown in the machine and I have an attachment to do carpets too. Dries much quicker than normal mops too and doesn't leave the floor sticky or damp. Wilkos do steam mop water which smells lovely and it's really cheap too.

When this one runs out of steam I will buy another one but with a built in handheld for taps and other bits around the house. I would recommend them to anyone, they bring up spillages and all sorts of random stains with no elbow grease needed. I had a weird dark patch on my wood floor which I had tried to get rid of for weeks, literally swiped over it a couple of times with the steam mop and it completely disappeared. They're magical! Grin

Namajesty · 09/05/2018 22:23

They are fine to use on all flooring types, check the descriptions of some online OP

gingercat02 · 09/05/2018 22:24

My laminate said not to use one and my SiL says you can't use them on wood floors. Mine doesn't leave water the floor is damp but slightly warm so you can see the dampness evaporate

lmx0 · 09/05/2018 23:07

@Namajesty if i was to get one i think i would deffo get one with attachments so i could tiles in bathroom n that but at the same time i wouldnt want to be breaking the bank either!! Thats good to hear i looking (hoping) for one that will clean better than a mop (im not sure if a little part of me is nesting as floors are never clean enough!)

Ill deffo bare that in mind to read and check where it is suitable for as ive wooden floors in my house as well as tiles
