How much laundry do you do??

I have 3 little ones aged 6 and under with one in cloth nappies plus me and dp and my laundry never seems to end!! I think I have a fairly good system only 1 large laundry basket and a smaller one in the bathroom for everyone yet I am constantly washing anything between 1-2 loads daily and both the laundry baskets are usually about half full. Is this normal?? I'd love to get to a stage where I can just stick to 1 load a day or even take a day off but I never can.

How do you guys manage?

about as much as you, minus the cloth nappies. I'm not sure it'll get any better before they move out though
They might manage to not get filthy every day, but their clothes get bigger, don't they?

Madwelshwoman · 16/05/2007 12:05

It doesn't help that ds is currently going through a 'change of clothes every hour' phase so I'm nearly at the stage of putting a padlock on his wardrobe to stop him!!

I do more than I realised. My washing machine went 'thunk' during the first load on Saturday morning and we are waiting for a part so it can be fixed. Since then, my house has been entirely taken over by dirty laundry. There are piles in the utility room, piles in the bedrooms and a full basket with a rather large pile beside it in the bathroom. It's going to take me best part of a week to catch up, I think. DH is the worst culprit - one set of clothes for work in the morning, another for the races and a third when he gets home. We 3 girls pale into insignificance beside the apparent enormity of his wardrobe and his reluctance to wear anything twice.

Too much. 2-3 loads a day. Four boys one in cloth nappies. one a bed wetter and a dirty tree surgeon for a DH.

AitchTwoOh · 16/05/2007 12:18

ooooh, any tips, GOH? racing. not laundry.

Madwelshwoman · 16/05/2007 12:22

I used to work in a bookies, some of the things people do and the money they spend it's horrendous. One bloke lost all his kid's christmas money one year, he didn't have enough to but all the presents he wanted to so thought he'd bet it and make more that way!!!

Doh I meant buy the presents not but

too much

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 16/05/2007 12:40

Aitch, you may do worse than have a couple of quid on Luscivious at Newmarket (I think 3.40) on Friday. If he gets stuffed though, I will not be held responsible . My tips are notoriously bad...

AitchTwoOh · 16/05/2007 12:44

are you a trainer? i was just talking to mark johnston the other day, nice chap, very cool.

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 16/05/2007 12:48

I am not a trainer, but I know a man who is....
How did you come by Mark Johnston, then?

AitchTwoOh · 16/05/2007 12:56

do you know him? it was through work. probably best not to say a huge amount as i get the impression he's quite private...
but now i need you to tell me if your dh is a trainer... is lascivious one of yours? how exciting, i love the racing. only the flat racing, though, not so fond of the jumps. dh gambles a bit, he's rather good at it and it's his only vice.

HenriettaHippo · 16/05/2007 13:07

eeer, hijack??!!

Too much laundry - 2 under 3, 1 in cloth nappies, DH not a tree surgeon, and I still do 1 if not 2, if not 3 loads a day. I have congratulatory parties when I see the bottom of the laundry basket. But even on those days, the nappies still have to go in...

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 16/05/2007 13:19

Apologies for shameless hijack! I'll bet I do more laundry than Deirdre Johnston does! DH does train, can't say much more because they do tend to be quite private. Hope the belt for my washing machine arrives today or you'll be able to tell my DH a mile off when he's interviewed by Channel 4 Racing. He'll be the one in the grimy shirt and then there will be no keeping his identity secret!

AitchTwoOh · 16/05/2007 13:22

if L is one of yours then i know who he is. how marvellous. i'll keep an eye out on the morning line.

okay, you domestic drudges, glamourous talk of horses over, hijack over. you may return to your laundry...

hannahsaunt · 16/05/2007 13:46

On average 1.5 loads per day over the 7 day period. Another good reason not to start using cloth nappies, not least because of the increase in water temperature needed.

tegan · 16/05/2007 13:48

I do 3 loads a day everyday without fail

HenriettaHippo · 16/05/2007 15:03

actually, the horses were more interesting.!

BTW, cloth nappies don't always require higher temps - mine go in at 40 degrees along with everything else. They're fine.
