sweaty workout clothes

My son has recently moved back in with us temporarily, and I've noticed that even though he washes his running clothes every day, there's still a strong smell of sweat on them. Does anyone have any tried and tested ways of eliminating the odour?

Zoflora or that laundry cleanser in the fabric softener bit of the machine should help remove smells

M5tothesouthwest · 05/05/2018 18:11

Dettol do an in-wash laundry disinfectant which is good.

dementedpixie · 05/05/2018 18:44

I use the Morrison's version which is cheaper

Ediemccreedy · 05/05/2018 19:59

I use white vinegar on the underarm part, before washing.

Thanks for all the tips. Will try them and if all else fails, will buy him a new set for his birthday.

You need Halo sports wash. We use it on the vast amount of sports kit generated in this house and it all never smells after washing. As its also formulated to wash lycra, it keeps it looking nice too

kaldefotter · 07/05/2018 10:42

I second the suggestion of Halo sports wash. It’s sold in Sainsbury’s.

LastOneDancing · 07/05/2018 10:44

I do the same as Ediemccreedy

White vinegar in the pits. You can get a big bottle for about 50p in any supermarket.

Mumthedogsbeensick · 07/05/2018 11:04

Vodka! The cheaper and higher proof the better. Put some undiluted in a spray bottle, spray the sweaty bits and leave to air dry. You can then enjoy a glass while you wait!

Even more suggestions, thanks. I walked up and down the laundry aisles at both Sainsbury's and Morrison's last week, but didn't see anything particularly for work out clothes. Will have another look tomorrow.

Soak and wash in vinegar, will get rid of ground in b o

BlackForestCake · 11/05/2018 21:17

Wash hotter.

MikeUniformMike · 12/05/2018 15:05

Don't use 2-in-1 or fabric conditioner.
One set of workout clothes isn't enough if he works out daily.

lancashirebornandbred · 13/05/2018 18:02

MikeUnifornMike, he does have lots of workout clothes, but they are nearly all smelly.

However, I've just bought the Halo Sports wash, and the first signs are good. He washed a load of clothes yesterday, and they seem to be much sweeter smelling, so thanks to those who recommended it.

That's good. I usually just soak in cheap disinfectant or Zoflora then wash.
