Best way to wash bloodstained stuff?

Sounds a bit odd but thought you'd all know!

DS has had several nosebleeds, (as has worked geriatric cat) and I've now got about 7 loads worth of bedding and clothes, colours and whites that need quite large bloodstains removing and washing.

Usually I would soak an individual item in cold water, scrub with bar soap and launder as usual, but it will take so long to do that with all of this - I've already lost the will.

Can anyone recommend the quickest easiest way to sort this, (other than throwing them all away and starting again which did cross my mind at one point!)

I was going to soak things in the bath but I'm a bit concerned that vanish (I have some own brand vanish for whites, but nothing for coloured items), and the like will damage it as it's cast iron and the enamel is already wearing away on the bottom.

Any suggestions would be very gratefully received! Thank you! Sorry this isn't a very interesting thread!!

Cold in bio powder. Heat fixes blood stains so they are then really hard to remove. You could soak first in bio powder or salt water, then wash, after the cold wash you can do ano5er normal wash if there are any stains remaining, but it should be fine.

I've always used cold water rather than hot as I think hot can set the stain even more.

I've no idea about vanish and your bath tub though

Cold, salty water. Smile

Ace bleach. Never known anything so good.

Grin I usually just put in the machine on a cold wash, then was again warmer. If the tub might be an issue with soaking, either just use salt and cold water to soak for an hour or two, or just wash cold with a scoop of stain remover.

Ordinary biological ariel powder at 40 on a longish wash. Gets all blood stains out, no problem. No need to soak in cold water first.

Thanks everyone, I'll try your suggestions and hopefully get everything clean again by Monday!

My daughter tends to have nosebleeds in bed. It's messy and means a full set of bedclothes, plus pillow and sometimes duvet. I do plain cold water in the bath, leave to soak, scrub any stains that are left (comes out quickly and easily if it has soaked for a few hours) then cold wash with Vanish to finish off.

I'd just stick them in the machine with bio powder at 40 degrees. Dd also gets nose bleeds (Less often since she got her nose cauterised) and most stains come out in the general wash.
