I'm trying to clean my entire house. I've recently had building work done, and it's VERY necessary that I go through everything with a fine-toothed comb, really getting things clean.

However, there are some areas where I'm getting stuck in fiddly, time-consuming jobs. I'm wondering if there are any products that I don't know about that can hep me here?

  • Tiny dots of paint splatter from careless decorators on dark aluminium doorframes and windows. I've broken so many nails trying to get these off. Ditto on oiled wooden floors Sad
  • New stainless steel sinks - these seem bizarrely much harder to clean than my old sink. Even after repeated wiping, I can see wipe marks. Any tips?
  • Matt kitchen cupboards (not wood). Whatever I clean these with, I can seem smears. (I've tried: flash, spray polish, water and microfibre cloth). Help!

Paint splatter - Big Wipes from B&Q or any other day store. They take paint off easily.

Stainless steel sink - Shiny Sinks. I buy it in Wilko.

Kitchen cupboards - white vinegar. In a spray bottle from wilko or the range.

Thank you, I will give those a go. Really appreciate the help - feeling more than a bit overwhelmed.

Have a lot of cloths. For drying. My lovely old cleaner used to use a toothpick with kitchen towel or a wipe on the end to do the cracks in door frames/windows. Rubbing alcohol is good for clearing smears. Old Toothbrushes. Hand held powerful vacuum.

I had the same problem with my new (not cheap) SS sink. I use Viakal occasionally and a Flash with bleach spray in between. But whatever I use it doesn't look good until i spray a couple of squirts of baby oil on the dry sink and rub round with a paper towel. The effect lasts too.

Take a look in your diy store like b&q. They have lots of builders specialist cleaning stuff that you don't see in Tesco, etc, for things like paint splashes and stuff.

Magic erasers are good for stainless steel sinks too.

For paint splatter, I use a new Stanley blade.

For kitchen cupboards, I spray on dettol all purpose kitchen cleaner and wipe with a cloth.i then go over the damp cupboard with a sheet of blitz kitchen roll to dry it and leave it smear free.

I came on this forum to ask about exactly this problem, so am definitely going to try this, thank you.

What is it with new stainless steel sinks? Mine was also not cheap but looks like it comes from the reclamation yard.
