NOT the usual sheets or towels question - but how often do you change hand towels?

The towels you have in the toilet for anyone, including visitors, to use after washing their hands? How often do you wash and change those? I've been doing it once a week but I don't think it's enough, really. I will put out a fresh one if we've got visitors coming and I remember.

Same as you, I only think to change it when we have visitors. Luckily we have regular visitors so it gets changed before it gets too grubby.

WindAndWuthering · 30/04/2018 19:23

So how often would that be do you think, villageshop?

Probably around every 4/5 days. If no visitors it might go a week but then we probably use the bathroom not so much the cloakroom so it's hardly used unless we have guests.

Weekly, and also every time we know we have a guest. I always sniff a guest towel in someone’s house before I use it because way too many are musty and end up making your hands stink after you’ve washed them.

As well as frequent changing, a key thing is that we have a towel warmer on a timer in the downstairs loo. It’s programmed so it comes on several times per day to dry the towels. I think a towel that gets wet and then left dry for too long inevitable goes musty.

You are so right about wet towels left to fester. They soon smell musty.

EBearhug · 01/05/2018 00:34

Fortnightly when I do the rest of the towels - but, I live alone, I hardly ever have visitors and I have separate handtowels in both loos and the kitchen. The kitchen one might get changed more often if I have a big kitchen session, but I'vé barely been home to do any proper cooking in the last month or two.

I change our hand towels daily and tea towels. To be fair we have builders in at the moment and I have a six month old so I know the towels are getting used (a lot!) and with the baby I am trying to keep germs etc to a minimum. It's become a bit of a habit now though so I expect I'll keep doing it after the builders have gone.

Daily here too. It seems to always be covered in toothpaste Hmm we don't have a separate wc, just the one bathroom, we live in a bungalow.

personal towels - whenever the person using them sees fit, usually once or twice a week - they are hanging on their separate hooks so airing constantly
the extra hand towel - every two days
guest towels - the small hand towels after one use
guests staying over - dayly

Lotsofhappysmiles · 01/05/2018 21:57

Hand towels daily and teatowels daily.

I'm at home in the day. It was every other day when I worked.

LockedOutOfMN · 01/05/2018 21:59

We are 4 people and have 1 bathroom. DH or I will chuck the hand towel in the laundry basket every couple of days and replace with a fresh one. More often in school holidays. We have few guests but if one was coming I'd check or ask someone to check that the hand towel was clean.

LockedOutOfMN · 01/05/2018 22:01

A tea towel goes in the wash every day unless we've been out all day and eaten out /not done any cooking. Probably 2 towels on a weekend day or day when we're all home.

DamsonOnThisDress · 01/05/2018 22:05

Changed every day.

Eggzandbacon · 01/05/2018 22:09

Twice a week - when I was home during the day it was more. Now we are all out 5 days a week they get little use.

Mybabystolemysanity · 01/05/2018 22:13

Hand towels and dish towels daily. Dish towels frequently more often. The thought of mucky ones gives me the willies. Need to run your washing machine hot regularly to keep it clean too.

I'll go away nowGrin
