What do you use/do to make it that way? I want my home to have a beautiful smell so it would be useful to know what is recommended to achieve this.

The devices that shoot out a spray every 9/18/30 minutes - all ours have a vanilla spray in them

Imjustalittlemeh1 · 28/04/2018 07:08

I recently started using zoflora and I love it. I used once in the dishwasher filter and every time I opened it it smelt lovely, it probably lasted about 10 washes!
I use it to clean surfaces and leave it in the sink over night so it smells nice in the kitchen and I have also used in my hoover filter so when I hoover it leaves he air smelling nice.

I know there is so many ways to use it but haven’t got around to those yet - will use in bathroom soon. If you have tiled floors you can use it to clean them and that will leave it smelling nice.

Lots of organic candles, we never light them but have the same scented ones placed where you walk often. I've had them for years and they still are scented.

Sugarhunnyicedtea · 28/04/2018 07:13

I have an airwick wax warmer with 'mums baking' wax melts, everyone comments on it

immortalmarble · 28/04/2018 07:14

Scented candles, definitely, but nice ones. Not hugely expensive necessarily but really cheap ones smell horrible.

Lilies smell lovely.

And give your dog away (only kidding!) Grin

Please don't go overboard! Like regular perfume-wearers, people become immune to the smell of their house so keep adding more until it's really unpleasant for visitors, particularly artificial scents. Flowers or nice scented houseplants (there's a current thread with recommendations) work nicely though.

NetofLemons · 28/04/2018 07:38

Scented house plants- I would suggest cyclamen and narcissus in bowls or cut flowers wintersweet or garden roses but that won’t scent a whole room, just when you sniff and they are also all seasonal. Madonna Lilies are the only thing that scents whole room but it can be a bit too much.
Nice smelling houses also tend to have no damp at all about them.

I often get a blast of a lovely clean smell when my friend opens her door. I commented on it and it turns out it's her laundry drying on airers!

Doobydoo · 28/04/2018 07:45

Lavender and beeswax....

I don’t like synthetic smells.

I have an oil diffuser in the kitchen diner, usually on an hour a day with lavender oil in it and a soy candle in each living room. I probably light them every other day.

Not than anyone has said that they think my house smells nice 😂.

LiteraryDevil · 28/04/2018 09:11

Whereabouts do you put the oils in a hoover?

Thingvellir · 28/04/2018 09:13

My NN has a lovely smelling house - I asked her what it was last time I called round - she had a large (pint glass size) reed diffuser on a shelf by the front door.

These are the candles that we use.

KnittinKitten · 28/04/2018 12:31

I have a wax lyrical golden sandalwood diffuser by the front door and a shooty out spray one with a cheap £1 air freshener in at the back door. I also handy my laundry over the banister and I love the smell of it when I go into the Hall.

Mymouthgetsmeintrouble · 28/04/2018 12:34

I use lavender multi purpose cleaner from aldi to clean with and have some solid air fresheners in the cupboard under the stairs as our bin and dirty laundry live there

Dogsrbarking · 28/04/2018 12:35

I once spilt an entire box of persil. I salvaged what I could but had to vacuum the rest up. My house smelt like fresh washing every time I vacuumed so when I change the bag I vacuum up a small amount of washing powder.

Also aldi Jo malone rip offs are surprisingly good

Magicstar1 · 28/04/2018 12:50

Those sprays make me sneeze all day. I have a Rituals Dao diffuser, and it's a gorgeous subtle smell.

agentdaisy · 28/04/2018 13:03

I have a few scented candles in every room except the dcs bedrooms, usually vanilla as I find floral scents too overpiwering.

I also use lemon or citrus scented cleaners in the kitchen/bathroom and on the hard floors. I used to just use whatever was on offer but I've found that the clashing smell of citrus cleaner form the bathroom and floral floor cleaner mixed with 'linen' kitchen cleaner made the house smell like a perfume counter of clashing and overpowering smells. Keeping them all the same, or as close to as possible, makes it smell nice and also seems to last longer.

JaneJeffer · 28/04/2018 13:06

Open the windows.

flubdub · 28/04/2018 13:19

My best friends house smells AMAZING. Really really amazing.
It's the Fairy washing gel that she uses to wash her clothes. I'm jealous because with 4 kids, I can't afford to spend £7 on a bottle that would only last a couple of days, but it permeates everything. Even her car Confused

flubdub · 28/04/2018 13:21

Also the candles from Aldi smell really strong, even unlit. The cream coloured glass ones hat are numbered like No3, No4 etc.
We buy the reed diffusers in the same range and they smell strong.
No3 is my favourite Smile

I do this now and for the same reason!Grin
I also air the house often, all windows open a lot, but I don’t actually use any artificial sprays or fresheners. Apparently my house smells like clean washing mostly, I do air dry a lot in the utility. I do get asked by friends how come the house always smells nice. Miracle really considering over the years we’ve had three old and smelly cats and three old and smelly dogs not to mention the teenagers! Grin

lulu12345 · 28/04/2018 16:20

I’ve had compliments on my Method citrus kitchen cleaner and Jo Malone pomegranate noir diffuser
