Re-cycling clothes

Much of it too tatty for charity shop, eg. old jeans, t shirts.

Dh says put in Sally Army clothes bank, they'll cherry pick the good stuff & send the rest to big textile recycling plant.

I think surely we should be able to re-cycle directly as rags (where I used to live did kerbside collection including textiles) rather than forcing SA to faff about sorting our old scruffs, which OBVIOUSLY are not re-saleable.

Suggestions?

some clothes can be composted or so i have heard.

other wise wash well and rip up and use as dish cloths/window cleaning rags etc etc

I have a friend who volunteers in a charity shop and when they are sorting though donations, they do have a bin-oike thing that they just chuck any clothes destined to be rags
so my vote is to jsut add into the bag - or you could put on the outside of the bag a taped note saying 'rags only'
??

no-one's forcing charities to do it, and at least they get the money from selling the rags to the trade rather than the council (who get the money from selling kerbside-recycled rags)...

Put into re-cycle bins for clothes, normally next to bottle banks etc.

used for fabric re-cycle, if the garments are not re-usable.

That's fine, clothes bank it is then. Good idea re: labelling the bag as rags!

My mum also claims you can compost clothes. However, she has also been known to compost an armchair, so I was taking that one with a pich of salt!
