accidentally left wet clothes in dryer for a couple of days

Just realised that I accidentally put clothes in the dryer to dry a couple of days ago and must have forgot to turn it on - also forgot they were there Blush.

I'm going to rewash the clothes which are a little bit pongy and use some of the Dettol laundry cleanser stuff. Do I need to do anything to clean the dryer? Don't know whether it would have built up bacteria etc over the last couple of days? It is a little whiffy. I've just done a laundry load with a towel in it, so have now put the towel in the dryer and am running it on a hot program. Would that be enough to kill any nasties in the dryer?

Thanks

I’d wipe the dryer drum out with something along the lines of cloth rung out in Dettol OR diluted bleach. White vinegar also has anti bacterial properties and is a really good deodoriser, so could use this. Not saying you would, but DO NOT mix bleach and vinegar, use one or the other.

After wiping drum down, put it on empty for about 20 minutes, the heat and the circulating air should remove the last of the smell.

If the smell is very bad, put some bicarbonate of soda in the bottom of the drum for about a day, then hoover out when done.

I generally give my dryer drum a clean out anyway from time to time (because I’m crazy) I use any of the above options, or a spray cleaner. Infact last time it was citrus all purpose polish, made the drum smell lovely and orangey :/

I did this once
I'm a lazy bum so just wiped a wetwipe or something round it and did a test load!
Think I might have chucked a dryer sheet in aswell
Was fine :)
