Moving to townhouse. Any tips?

I'm moving from a small 2 up 2 down terraced house to a 3 storey townhouse next month and my mind is boggling at how I'm going to keep it clean! And how my routine is going to change!

I'll have a kitchen, utility room, toilet and patio garden on ground floor, living room, bathroom and bedroom 1 on middle, and bedroom 2 and bedroom 3 with en suite on top floor.

I like TOMM and will probably give it a go but am wondering what other townhouse residents do.

Please share your tips!

I’ve just sat an happily read this thread even though I have never lived in a town house and have no intention of ever moving.
I’m a sad individual.

Don't worry, Mrs. Threads are a little like Poo Sticks. Some make it under the bridge and sail happily in cleat waters, some are caught in eddies, a few vanish without trace. You just don't know what will happen. Grin

Best of luck in the new place, anyway. Smile

Any tips? Yeah don't! That's my tip!! Hell on Earth. Stairs, stairs and more bloody stairs!!! Also room sizes far too small, noise always echoes up the stair wells and between each house along with the constant sound of neighbours' footsteps Confused Can never hear knocks on door.

Never ever ever again.

@cozietoesie thanks! I'm very excited.

I actually like living in a townhouse!

The stairs keep you fit. Plus I like that the kids' bedrooms are at the top of the house away from the noise of the kitchen.

My tips:
As above, never go up/ down stairs empty handed. I have a couple of brabantia fold up laundry baskets which are handy for transporting things.
Keep cleaning materials in each bathroom/ loo.
I have just got a cordless hoover - game changer!
Phone chargers on each floor. We also keep our wifi router on the middle floor as we found the signal was quite weak at the top of the house if it was on the ground floor.

Thanks @Fleurchamp.

I saw some rope type baskets in primark the other day, I reckon one or two of those could be handy for dumping bits in that need transporting to other floors.

I'm sure it'll just take a bit of getting used to... I'm certainly happy to have an upgrade as my current house is tiny and feels like a rabbit warren!

Me too with the townhouse love. We can never hear the neighbours (end of terrece though), and noise from the other floors is no worse than a regular house.
We started the never go up/down empty handed but most things now live on the floor they are intended for with duplicates where possible. One thing I love is the views from the top floor we can see all the way to Canary Wharf which is miles away.
Biggest pain is vacuuming the stairs, dyson stick thingy is a lifesaver.

If you're contemplating a townhouse 'conversion' watch out for noise, though - especially if it's an older building. I've noticed that while the walls between the ground floors are thick, the upper floor walls are less so. (Presumably, the Victorians just went to bed, quietly, after a certain time.) If you're buying a flat in the top floor of a converted town house, though, don't assume that the walls will be thick enough to stop noise. The odds are that they won't.
