Cleaning stainless steel cutlery

Just recently I've been noticing that stainless steel table knives have been coming out of the dishwasher with a bluish sheen on them - a bit like the effect you get of oil floating on water.
The knives are properly clean, and putting them through another wash cycle or hand washing with washing-up liquid doesn't remove this sheen.
Has anyone any advice on what this is please?

Placemarking same problem

Too much rinse aid can do this as it doesn't rinse away properly (irony). Also, Stainless steel is an alloy and not all are created equally - perhaps certain cutlery has a different mix that reacts to detergent

Try soaking in vinegar)

Thanks for the suggestions. I don't think it's inadequate rinse as I have rinsed them separately by hand. I will try the vinegar and report back.

It's not Inadequate rinse aid. It's too much rinse aid. Either they couldn't drain properly or there was too much rinse aid loaded into the dishwasher. Rinsing them after doesn't remove once it's been done - vinegar should work.

I'm not sure that I can adjust the level of rinse aid. Will investigate that.

Same problem.

Reporting back!
I wiped the knives with lemon juice, and that has removed the blue.
Next thing is to try diluting the rinse aid.
