Has anyone bought a Miele Tumble Dryer lately?

My old one has just died and was considering replacing with another but I've just been on Trustpilot and there are pages and pages and pages of terrible reviews about the quality of the products and dire customer service - I've never seen anything like it! There's one dryer on John Lewis with dreadful reviews, and then another couple with many good ones. I am confused! Also I was thinking of a heat exchanger model, but again one model's reviews say it's dreadful and another says it's the best thing ever. Can anyone help?

Yes! Have a Miele condense drier for about 4months now.
Love love love it. Best decision ever!

Thank you Ponypolo - I had my last one for 12 years and it just died so I was all ready to get another, then I saw the trust pilot reviews. Did you think about getting a heat exchanger one, rather than the condenser?

oops - PonyPals - sorry!

I like mine but it took a bit of getting used to. It takes ages to dry a load so you have to allow time for that, on the plus side it's more energy efficient and it takes a big load so I don't have split the washing machine load into two. You also can't set the time, you choose the level of dryness that you want and it works out the time itself. Sometimes I see that there's only a couple of minutes left so I hang around to empty it, but once it finishes it quite often decides that it needs a bit more time, which can be frustrating.

Mine's a condenser, I haven't tried the heat exchanger.

I sell Miele tumble dryers whether you go for a heat pump dryer or a standard condenser really depends on your usage. Contact Miele and they will put you in touch with a local dealer who should be able to go through them all with you and help you choose which one is best.

Thanks GrowlikeMargeSimpson. User1498572889, if you sell Miele tumble dryers, do you have any idea why there are so many negative reviews of the company - it's really extraordinary the level of hate. Have you had similar feedback from customers?

Hi faustina
You have to remember that a large number of people who post reviews do so because they are not happy with what they have purchased. If people are happy they tend to just get on and use what they have purchased without giving it another thought. Most people are dissatisfied with a purchase because they did not do enough research before hand or the people they purchased from did not take enough time to find out how the appliance will be used. This is partly the consumers fault as any purchase is only one click away on the internet. If you want any advise please private message me. Its ok I wont try to sell you anything :)

I don't be have a Miele dryer but I am posting because we bought a washing machine and separate dryer 8 years ago. Went for a mid range Miele washing machine and a mid range Bosch dryer. Would have had a Miele dryer but funds were limited after I fell for the Miele washing machine! We bought them at exactly the same time. I still love my Miele washing machine but the Bosch dryer has been great too, and I would really recommend it. I think we paid about £380 for it, it's a condenser dryer. A known fault with Bosch dryers is that the handle of the door often breaks but DH (who isn't at all handy) was able to fix it after buying a replacement inline for about a tenner.

Thanks all, and thank you User14 etc for the offer of help. I couldn't get through to Meile, so had to rely on their website comparison facility which wasn't much help - you can select up to four items and it will tell you the differences between them - and the answer was literally nothing! Two had a slightly differently shaped door. All the rest was the same including price. No website had all four models so they wouldn't have been able to tell me the differences either. So just before my head exploded I got one of the four (with a heat pump) from AO and it's arriving tomorrow. Fingers crossed!

Hi Faustina
I had to replace my tumble dryer last year. Having had a Miele waning machine I’d said for ages that I’d get a Miele tumble dryer when needed. Then we got a new kitchen and I was so impressed with all our new Bosch appliances -especially the super-quiet dishwasher - I changed my mind and swore I’d get a Bosch when the old one packed up. A couple of months later it did but I ended up caving and getting a Miele one after all due to some bad reviews for Bosch tumble dryers. I must admit I regret not going for the Bosch, especially after seeing Youradvice’s post. One of my main requirements was a reverse tumble as I was fed up with the great knotted messer duvet cover. The Bosch one has reverse but still tangled -even worse than the old tumble dryer. It also takes forever to dry. Having said that, it’s pretty quiet, which is also important to me.

I bought the cheapest Miele I could find - about £600. I think the Bosch one I was looking at was about £380 Sad

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 07/04/2018 19:16

mess of a duvet cover!

SingingBabooshkaBadly · 07/04/2018 19:18

Sorry Faustina - didn’t read your update so my comments weren’t very helpful given that you’d already ordered one. Hope you love it!

faustina · 07/04/2018 19:38

The salesperson at AO said she had a heat pump tumble dryer and it didn't take much longer for a load to dry - oh well, we will have to see. A lot of people seemed to dislike the Miele sensor thing (where it decides how long things need) and I've had that option only old machine and didn't mind it at all. Thanks SingingBabooshka - I hope it stops tangling soon. I thought about a Bosch but I want something that will last a long time - I absolutely hate having to go through the choosing of appliances (especially ones I won't really have to look at)

Hi @Faustino now you have had the dryer a few months what is your opinion on it ? TIA x

MiniMum97 · 30/10/2018 20:02

I wouldn't buy Miele on the basis of their terrible customer service. I bought a washing machine with a few initial problems (such as, it had an awful oil smell which filled the whole room when the machine was on and the smell was transferring onto the washed clothes) and the service was appalling quite frankly (apparently it was completely normal for there to be such a stink and I had to run multiple boiling washes with bio powder to get rid of it at a cost to me of course) and the representatives I spoke to verging on rude. If you sell a premium product, you need to offer a premium service in my opinion. IF the washer needed boil washed before it could be used to actually clean clothes, this should have happened in the factory. Luckily I won (thanks Mumsnet!) an AEG softwater machine so the Miele was sold. Funnily enough there was no hideous smell in this machine (or in any other washing machine I have ever bought...but don't forget that the smell was completely normal!). Never again Miele!
