Is it worth buying an expensive washing machine?

Just wondering if it's really worth buying an expensive washing machine, and how long everyone has had various brands.

Our first Indesit (budget price brand) lasted for 18 years with no repairs which I think is impressive, so we replaced it with another Indesit at the end of it's lifespan. However, after 5/6 washes a week for 7.5 years the present one is making odd sounds which are getting worse. Ethically we should get it repaired but for what we paid it doesn't feel worth it. As this one has lasted a shorter length of time just wondering whether to pay more in the hope a different brand lasts longer.

I had a Miele and it lasted 16 years with no issues at all so when it broke we replaced it with a new one... which shook my whole blooming house, they sent someone out who didn’t even look at it and he told us we needed to fit a concrete floor preferably or a plinth work...

Sent it back and got a cheaper one, apparently it’s really common with new ones and rather than accepting that washing machines shouldn’t shake that much they always tell you you need concrete.

I would go for a Miele but get the basic one. I replaced my 15 year old entry level one when we moved house with a snazzier version and it is not as good in my opinion.

I'm on my third bottom of the range Indesit washing machine in 24 years. When you've paid about £250-300 it hurts a lot less to kiss them goodbye. Our current dishwasher is a Bosch and it's a pig with a well known design fault. It cost a lot of money and I'd never spend that much again.

Thanks for your replies everyone. Our budget was low/mid and after lots of thought, I've gone for the devil I know, another Indesit - I've averaged 13 years out of my last two, so even if this one only lasts a few years I've done well out of three machines that cost me £670.

I do have a hot water tank 😁 BUT my washing machine is cold fill. My boiler and heating system was replaced just a couple of years ago and we were advised against a combi boiler because of having three floors with one of the bathrooms on the top floor and the water pressure not being good enough. So we have a hot water tank with a pump to put hot water to the top floor. I wanted a combi boiler......

My father in law has just bought the cheapest machine and then pays £3 something a month for the extended warranty through currys where if it can't be fixed the replace it.
