Where is all this dust coming from??

as the title really. My bedroom seems to attract dust like a fly to shit. I don't know what it is but I dust regularly, in my bedroom 3 times a week atm which is ridiculous, and use all items that are 'out and about' on a daily basis but no matter what I do there is a layer of dust on everything.
It honestly looks like I haven't dusted in weeks. My 'for show' fireplace in the living room has less dust on it and I hardly ever remember to dust that.

It's really starting to annoy me now but more than that I wake up every morning with a sore throat and persistent cough which I'm sure is down to the dust as wen we recently spent the weekend away I didn't have either when I woke up.

Cold weather, dry skin? (yuck I know)

speakout · 30/03/2018 22:01

Dust is mostly dead human skin cells.
My bathroom is place that seems to accumulate most dust.

Bluntness100 · 30/03/2018 22:03

Do you use hairspray in there? It can leave an invisible coating on things that attracts dust and it becomes more visible...

BoundByBriars · 30/03/2018 22:13

This is the bane of my life.

The stuff is back in a thin layer the very next day and looks like I haven't dusted all week just two days later.

If I've had a busy week and not got round to it for 7 days or more, it's absolutely caked. It's hideous. And I don't know any way around it other than dusting every chuffing day. Or making everyone wear those Lycra bodysuits so they don't flake everywhere. Wink

donajimena · 30/03/2018 22:14

Do you use dry shampoo?

Idobelieveinfairies2018 · 30/03/2018 22:45

No I don't use dry shampoo and hairspray/deodorants etc I do outside due to dds asthma. Only thing I spray in my room is lice repellent spray on dds hair before school every morning but that's a new thing (last month). Also this has been an on going issue since we moved here last may so not to do with the cold weather.
I've been racking my brains but I can't connect anything and we didn't have this issue at our previous place.
Only thing I can think of that's different is there is a terrible mould problem in this flat but it's in every room except the kitchen.

There's no chuffing way I am dusting everyday I'd have to dust 5 drawer tops, 3 wardrobe tops and then the everyday stuff like bottles of perfume, deodorants, trinket boxes, treadmill, tv etc (yes I know I have a lot of crap lol).

oh well thought I'd ask...

RavenLG · 30/03/2018 22:54

retirednow · 30/03/2018 22:57

From the loft, ceiling, have you got wooden floors,

clumsyduck · 30/03/2018 23:02

Skin ! Hair !

Certain light will show it more . My bedroom is very bright . I Hoover constantly

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 30/03/2018 23:02

Do you have forced air heating?

Idobelieveinfairies2018 · 31/03/2018 03:49

we live in a ground floor flat so don't know about upstairs having plastering etc but it does sound like they have a heard of elephants up there so maybe it's coming off my ceiling?
No wooden flooring in our bedroom just carpet that's 8 months old.

Forced air? is that like a fan heater? If it is no we have gas central heating.

I know dust is skin and hair etc but we don't shed anymore than we did before we moved and I've not seen so much dust since we live on a new half built housing estate.

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 31/03/2018 04:48

Ah ok. Forced air is common here. The furnace warms up the air and blows it around the house through vents in the floor. There’s a filter in the air intake that has to be replaced regularly and the ducting cleaned annually. If you have radiators then that clearly doesn’t apply. I hope you pinpoint the source!

Eww just been put of my dinner! I honestly did not know that about dust.
