I am thinking of getting someone to take my ironing. Will want to pay by the hour. How long do you think it takes to iron two baskets? (I have never done that much at once) Mostly kids clothes , skirts, tops etc

just wear it unironed.

sorry not constructive but would take me half and hour to find and set up my iron!

tortoise · 08/05/2007 20:44

Depends on the size of the baskets! i would say about 2+ hours to do it properly.

luciemule · 08/05/2007 20:46

I do a basket of mainly my tops and kids clothes in half an hour and it looks fine to wear so probably only an hour for 2. If it's shirts and bedding, 2.

WendyWeber · 08/05/2007 20:46

I haven't ironed a total of 2 baskets of clothes in the last 10 years

Also not helpful, sorry.

There are local ironing services set up already in most places. Put "ironing" and your town in yell.com and give some of them a ring

sherbert · 08/05/2007 20:49

I have tried the ironing services and they charge a fortune. Two hours is what I was expecting and can mange to pay that. I am willing to pay £6.50 and hour if they collect and deliver. Does that sound reasonable.?

About 1 episode of Ugly Betty, a quick visit to MN followed by some Desperate Housewives and a glass of wine! If there is a lot I start on the next episode of DH on E4 and another glass of wine. Then it takes me the rest of the week to put it all away before I start on the next lot.

Can't remember seeing bottom of basket for so long.

GooseyLoosey · 08/05/2007 21:04

With you dimpledthighs - would take me all night to find the iron. My LOs think that ironing is something only grandmothers do - and (in my case), how right they are!

if it is going to take 2 hours then 6.50 per hour isn't much. if you take into account minumum wage plus electric plus wear and tear on the iron/board/press etc plus the collection and delivery..

but then what would i know? the only ironing that gets done in this house is dh work shirts and he does them himself.

Botbot · 08/05/2007 21:19

I don't do ironing either. Life's too short. Job interviews and weddings are the only occasions my iron comes out for.

luciemule · 08/05/2007 21:34

I was going to say I wouldn't do it for 6.50 an hour too, especially if she's collecting/delivering it but actually if she's doing lots of people's then it wouldn't be so bad I guess.

luciemule · 08/05/2007 21:34

I think my friend does it for a tenner a basket.

What do you mean by a basket? Is it a washing-machine load? I could do two loads in 30-50 minutes, depending on what the loads consisted of - i.e. baskets full of school shirts would slow me down most.
