Just seen a mouse in my kitchen - HELP

What do I do? It's gone behind the fridge, I think. Hopefully not into one of the cupboards.

Rang DH at work and asked him to come home immediately and he laughed hysterically and told me I was pathetic .

I didn't think my house was that filthy - to have mice roaming ad lib . I was making a lasagne at the time, for dinner toniht, and its put me right off.

You should do some mouse research to take your mind off it. Your house isn't filthy.

I think you should put on a pinny and stand on a chair with a broom in your hand - kind of poised above head - and stay like that until dh comes home.

We've had mice. Best way to deal from experience:

Big pointy traps (none of yer humane rubbish). Get your DH to deal with any dead ones

Make sure no crumbs etc. on floors or surfaces every evening

Check packets to make sure nothing nibbled - throw away / decant into sealed tubs if worried

We get mice in our attic every winter (live in the country).

We phone the council who send the mouseman who puts poison down in the attic & airing cupboard. He then comes back weekly to check the bait and remove any bodies (have never actually seen the little blighters, just heard the scrabbling).

The council only charge abotu £30, well worth it.

Am I the only one who crawls around the house with a small fishing net trying to catch the buggers and then let them out at the end of the garden then?
I blame the cat.

I saw one in my kitchen about 6 weeks ago. I bought a couple of mousetraps and an ultrasound blaster (that's supposed to frighten them away). Mousetraps down every night for a fortnight, no dead mouse to be found. Turned out all kitchen cupboards, no mouseshit, no nibbled food, no mice. Have stopped putting the traps down in fear that I'll forgett nad lose a toe to one but keep the ultrasound going, and still no sign of a mouse.
Oh, I did have to empty out the stariwell cupboard and found some mouseshit there, but again nothing nibbled and no mouseshit anywhere else. So I think it's gone, and yours might be passing throug as well. Try traps (peanut butter) and ultrasound if you have a fairly open-plan kitchen, cos it doesn't go through walls.

Your house isn't filthy. In London we're never more that six feet away from a mouse or a rat. nice to know huh?
Traps, set with chocolate. They prefer it to cheese. Also they like peanut butter. Then BAM! Most likely to catch them at night when it's dark and you're not thumping around. Go around your skirting boards or floorboards and seal any holes you fine, they can fit through a hole the size of a pencil

Can you tell we've had a few???

AnnieOleTing · 08/05/2007 13:09

Yeah, the ultrasound keeps em out too. Drives em barmy.

I saw a mouse in my kitchen last year, on the work surface. Absolutely scared me witless and I felt like terrible mum as dd was only about 6 months at the time. It ran off straight away - under the sink.We had a loose skirting board thing under the sink and we put it back in place, even though it's not nailed. I disinfected everything, cleared everywhere of crumbs, put everything like cereal in plastic containers and hoped for the best. Approached the kitchen in trepidation for months after but no more mice! Perhaps yours too just popped in for a visit to check you out.
