Dyson help?!

Hi. I'm interested in buying a dyson cordless. I know the v10 just came out but way too pricey for me. Have both carpet and hard floors but would be mainly using on hard floors/tiles. Any recommendations on v8 models? Or v7? Absolute vs total clean??

We have the V6 animal and just a V6 in the holiday house. Both are very good. The secret is to make sure the filters are kept clean.

I got a v6 a few weeks ago and absolutely love it. Needs emptying/cleaning fairly regularly but that's a doddle and the benefit of such easy, effortless vacuuming more than makes up for it!

HarrietSchulenberg · 18/03/2018 00:45

My mum has the V8 Animal and it's ace. 40 mins cleaning on one charge and it does their whole bungalow twice over. I'm saving up for one myself.

If you’re anti-Brexit buy anything other than a Dyson. Wink

marchonto2018 · 18/03/2018 01:01

We have a reconditioned one that was £120.

But tbh in a townhouse with dogs it's a mistake. We have to empty it every 5 seconds and hoover every day as the charge is too short.

We're going to keep it for kitchen and stairs, but going to invest in a decent machine soon.

Thanks guys. I don't have any pets myself. Not sure if the v7 model is sufficient or if I should be looking at the v8? How do you decide between the models?

I bought the v6 animal and I absolutely love it. It’s changed my life and I don’t knock how I ever managed without it. I have a 2 bed semi, no pets and the charge is always sufficient for me.
I bought mine in curry’s and they had a stand thing that showed you all the things each one had .
It did seem like a big decision at the time trying to decide because it was quite a bit of money.

ghfd458 · 19/03/2018 11:39

Thank you. I read the total clean model has a head for hard floors which is mainly what I need as a lot of tiles in my house. Is it worth buying from dyson outlet? Anyone bought from there?

The trouble with a Dyson cordless is that you need to rinse the filters very regularly - and it's not always at all obvious that they need it. And they take a long time to dry. (Away from direct heat, according to the instructions)
Both a dd and I have bought spare filters - why Dyson don't provide them as standard I really don't know. You can be stuck otherwise with a Dyson you can't use till the next day. Our spares cost about £12 each.
Dd had a lot of trouble with her Dyson cutting out until she realised it was the filter.

marchonto2018 · 19/03/2018 18:48

Oh is that true @GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER? I haven't heard of that. I thought mine was just wearing out.

Cheesilycheerful · 20/03/2018 07:59

My dyson died after 2 years 3 months conveniently just out of warranty. They said a new battery would be £70 or an engineer the same but no

Cheesilycheerful · 20/03/2018 08:34

Sorry pressed too soon! No guarantee it would work. I spent £140 on a shark compact instead. Gets loads more up than the dyson. 8m cable so can do stairs. Hard floor attachment is great and it’s powerful enough to do vacuum storage bags unlike the dyson. I love it!

marchonto2018 · 20/03/2018 11:33

Oh can you link to the shark you have please? It could be just what we need.

Cheesilycheerful · 20/03/2018 12:27

Hi.

This is the one. Its cheap in costco and i always find their returns guarantees the best.

Fabulous. Thanks so much.

PoisonousSmurf · 20/03/2018 15:51

Dysons are rubbish! Far to fiddly to use and are overated.

thefirstmrsdewinter · 20/03/2018 16:26

I agree with pp, they're overrated. Dp used to have one and when we moved in together I tried to get on with it but I was forever pinching/scraping/cutting my fingers on it and bruising my shins. I found it clunky, awkward and difficult to empty.
We now have a Henry and while it isn't perfect (heavy, and I tangle the cord around the hose and/or wheels a fair bit) it will consume anything and everything. And it's manufactured (not just 'designed' ahem) in the UK.

Cheesilycheerful · 20/03/2018 18:47

The shark has a 5 year warranty too!

squiz81 · 21/03/2018 19:02

I had a v8 but sent it back as it wouldnt work on two of our thicker carpets.
We now have a v6. Bought a refurbished one from the dyson outlet on eBay. I love it! Makes vacuuming so much easier and it picks up really well. It struggles on larger bits, like when my kids drop cereal - those alpha bite things which are a but chunky - but i think if i had the fluffy head attachment it would solve that issue.
