Outdoor rotary dryers - do you fold yours up?

We, and all the houses round about have the fold up type rotary dryers in our gardens. Mine is left up all the time, mainly because it so difficult to get back up once it's been folded. I've just been to the post box and noticed at least 8 of the people in my street struggle to get their dryers up, after taking the covers off. A quick look around showed that only me and the woman across from me seem to keep ours up all the time. Some neighbours even seem to keep theirs in the shed. I must be wierd then if mine is never folded down - anyone else?

I leave it up. DH folds it down....

PersonalClown · 05/05/2007 14:13

I fold mine up because ds thinks he can swing on it! I don't want to pay for another if he breaks it.

smugmumofboys · 05/05/2007 14:16

I keep mine up most of the time as it's a pita to get back up and, when folded, the dses pull on the cord and then I spend an age rethreading it round in order to get it back up. Life's too short frankly!

Budababe · 05/05/2007 14:20

Leave mine up.

RubberDuck · 05/05/2007 14:22

I fold mine down, but you've made me realise that there's no real logic as to why.

I suppose because down it feels less like it's dominating the whole garden. But mostly I fold it down out of habit (did have a cover once, but that split, so it's not even really being protected!!)

JackieNo · 05/05/2007 14:27

Leave mine up. The only time it gets taken down is if I'm being particularly zealous when mowing the lawn, and then it goes straight back up after I've mowed over it, or if we're having a big bbq or party in the garden and I want it to look a bit posher (that's never, then).

MaureenMLove · 05/05/2007 14:28

i fold it down. Its a satisfying 'done' to that job for me.

misdee · 05/05/2007 14:31

mine only ever gets folded up if i need to put it away for any reason.

i do want it moved so need to get a new ground spike.

lucyellensmum · 05/05/2007 14:38

i dont wish to be trite, but really, who cares!!!!!!!!!

ChippyMinton · 05/05/2007 14:39

Have just moved it around the corner because i don't want to look at it from the living room. It's usually folded with cover on, because i'm too lazy to peg out the laundry, so bung it in the dryer instead. Used it yesterday to make a den for the DC and their friends tho'

My neighbour leaves hers up ALL the time.

I leave ours up during the summer months and take it down in the winter, when going on holiday and when we are using garden for a party etc.

cece · 05/05/2007 15:03

I never fold it up as the rope gets all tangled up

I have never had one rust, and we've always left ours outside. We're lucky because we have a very big garden and the rotary dryer is tucked well away so it isn't in anyone's way and doesn't dominate the garden.

So stay up it does!

NoodleStroodle · 05/05/2007 18:14

Fold down so the garden looks a little bit nicer.

PestoMonster · 05/05/2007 18:33

Ours stays out and up from Spring to Autumn, then it retires to the shed for its Winter holiday

bobsmum · 05/05/2007 18:37

I hav to fold mine because the lines are string and not PVC coated so they have to be kept dry. It seems to be spring loaded or something because as soon as you press the button it all shoots closed llike a venus fly trap and the strings are encased in steel. Sounds very Dr WHo, but is actually a pain in the backside.

The whole thing needs to be lifted out of the ground to mow the lawn and there's a little plug to close the hole.

I hate it with a passion and would much prefer a straightforward washing line. But FIL chose and bought it as a "house warming present" gee thanks

NoodleStroodle · 05/05/2007 18:38

So does FIL give you a hoover for Christmas?

bobsmum · 05/05/2007 18:39

no - that was from my gran

NoodleStroodle · 05/05/2007 18:39

You poor poor woman!

bobsmum · 05/05/2007 18:40

Did I mention that dh gave me the mincer attachment for the Kenwood Chef as a birthday present? He learned a hard lesson that day I can tell you....

Blondilocks · 05/05/2007 18:42

We fold ours up & keep it in the shed when not in use.

Budababe · 05/05/2007 18:43

DH got me a garden hose for Mother's Day!

(He never gets me anything as he says I am not his mother - fair point - but bought a garden hose and decided it was my Mother's Day present)

MuffinMclay · 05/05/2007 22:04

Mine is left up all year round. Never occurred to me to put it down.
