...from my cream coloured settee!! My ds has just lost a tooth and blood went all over the place including the settee before he told me anything!!

What can get blood out of furnishings?

Please help

Oh, I was going to say garlic cleanses the blood, but that's not what you want is it?
Cold water initially, not warm, after that I don't know. If it's a removable cover, get it off and rinse it lots.

After cold water, try applying neat salt. That might draw out the blood stain.

Thankfully the settee is old and past its best but my dh has just found some stain removal liquied for clothes and we are trying that.

I'm writing a letter to the tooth fairy to locate the missing tooth. Ds can't talk, so can't tell us where he lost it! Yuk, could find it anywhere...

Thanks everyone. I did the salt and water first, then this stain removal stuff. Seems ok

Thank you!

Good luck with the tooth, twois.

Blood is not the worst of stains, and will come out if you keep at it. Plenty of cold water and salt, but no bubbles unless it's specifically a blood treatment. Fairy Liquid, (as I'm sure you already know), makes the stain green, and it will never come out!

twoisplenty · 04/05/2007 20:16

Thanks rabbleraiser. yes the salt did do some of the work, and then lots of water. It looked such a mess I thought nothing would work, but we have success!

Thanks everyone for rallying round so fast!

Ds is now asleep, waiting for the tooth fairy!

So you found the tooth, then?

twoisplenty · 04/05/2007 21:20

No, the tooth is well and truly lost, so we wrote the tooth fairy a letter (!) requesting that she look for it! Ds was happy with that.

Bless you! I'm sure you'll think of something imaginative when she, er, can't find it by the morning

Jomist · 04/05/2007 21:44

Make a paste of bicarbonate of soda and water and slap it on. Leave it til it dries then rinse off with cold water. That's according to my very handy book (good luck).

twoisplenty · 04/05/2007 22:20

Oooh, thanks Jomist. Definitely remember that for next time. I'm sure there will be a next time, there's 16 teeth to go! that's a grin with no teeth!!!

Small fresh bloodstains can be diluted with spit (nice) but I wouldn't suggest you sit there for half an hour mustering up enough to cover a large area! I think it's something about similar fluids, a bit like white wine dispersing red wine. There's an enzyme in spit which dissolves blood, or something. Wonder if milk would work too? (But whatever you put it on would stink, so...)

Ah well, so much for my good advice. Still, it could have been worse!

Londonmamma · 04/05/2007 22:42

For blood on clothes etc I've heard that soaking it in milk before washing is a good thing.

CoffeeCrazedMama · 04/05/2007 22:56

If you have any of that Vanish in-wash (in the pink bottle - NOT the spray one) sponge it on. It turns white and frothy - looks like it's eating the blood. Best thing I've found. Two of my dds have had nosebleeds for years and we have always found it good IF YOU DO IT ASAP. (In fact, when dd2 was born at home a free sample arrived in the post that day! Dh washed everything we had got blood on in it and it all came out. That's how we discovered it.) Good luck.
