The build up of hard water stains om the tiles and glass is just a disaster. I'm embarrassed but I need help. What can I do to fix it?

I only use a mixture of water and vinegar to clean my bathroom now (50:50 mix in a spray bottle), could you try that and leave it to work for a while before wiping?

Rainbowblume · 25/02/2018 22:35

Ive ordered vinegar and bar keepers friend which should arrive this week. People coming on Friday- would really like to sort it before then

Vinegar or lemon juice, or Stardrops if you want something in a bottle. Any of those will dissolve limescale and leave your tiles shiny.

WonkyDonk87 · 25/02/2018 22:54

I use this stuff - it's amazing but you need to get your marigolds on when applying it or your hands will fall off.

WonkyDonk87 · 25/02/2018 22:55

Bugger. Pic fail. HG hagesan blue professional limescale remover (amazon or b&q)

DramaAlpaca · 25/02/2018 22:55

Another vote for vinegar. The white sort, not the one you put on chips. It works wonders.

Rainbowblume · 25/02/2018 22:57

wonky did you link? I don't see a link. [Desperate]

Have you thought about getting a water softener?

Rainbowblume · 25/02/2018 23:04

Cross post thanks wonky For those saying vinegar - the one I ordered says 2 table spoons vinegar essence to a bucket water. Doesn't seem much. If I use more will I damage the glass?

I tried using vinegar in the past (v v hard water area so it's the bane of my life) - kettle stank for ages! put me off forever more Grin

GummyGoddess · 25/02/2018 23:08

Does the glass have a coating on it? If not then no it won't damage the glass. Not sure about your tiles though, what are they made of?

InvisibleToEveryone · 25/02/2018 23:12

Cillit bang grime and lime
Or
Kilrock descaler, this is quite strong though.

Rainbowblume · 25/02/2018 23:14

The glass does have a coating on the inside supposedly to stop this happening but if you let your kid splash in their toddler bath every night for 2 years and never really tackle it properly - this happens. I don't know what the tiles are - they are just Matt tiles. Will ask DH if he can remember what we ordered.

I would just spray some Viakal on it, leave it a few minutes, rinse and then see where you are. After years of using vinegar, citric acid etc I've started using it to clean everything, it leaves such a nice shine on the sinks.

PoloPrincess · 25/02/2018 23:43

I use Cilit Bang lime and grime. It's the only thing that works for me. It might take a couple of goes but persevere. Once it's all sparkly clean, after each shower I spray Mr Muscle Advance Power Shower Shine or some supermarkets make their own cheaper version. You spray it everywhere and leave it. It stops the water droplets making the nasty limescale marks. Hope that helps.

Thelampshadelady · 25/02/2018 23:47

Citric acid. I buy a bag to either mix with water to make a spray or make a paste using a small amount of water.

FingerlingUnderling · 26/02/2018 12:26

I find loo limescale remover works a treat as it sticks (like viakal). I splash it about then rub it with a washing up brush and leave it on the walls for an hour or so then using a wet brush and shower head (or whatever you have, wash/brush it off.

SeamusMacDubh · 26/02/2018 13:48

Kilrock - little clear tub/bottle with a yellow lid and brush attached. I get it in The Range.

Viakal- white spray bottle, pick it up in Wilkos, Tesco etc

Thanks all so much for your advice. Whilst waiting for my internet purchases to arrive - vinegar, citric acid, bicarbonate, 3 different types of barkeepers friend I thought I'd have a go with half a lemon. Rubbed it directly on the mark squeezing the juice as I went. Used an old but clean washing up sponge on it - green side. Wiped off with a wet paper towel and finished with some glass cleaner. I've surprised myself - some of it has come off. Will do it properly tomorrow and have a go at the tiles.
