Decluttering - carboots and ebay...

Finally managed to do a good deal of decluttering. Emptied 3 wardrobes of clothes that I haven't really worn in the past few years as well as all my maternity clothes - a wardrobe in themselves.
I have two suitcases and 2 black bags of boy's clothing, my first born had so much given to him that i've had to bag up most of it as we have little space. My newborn has also been given much and i've taken a few of the things that DS1 had that i really liked and left the rest.
Have gone through some books too but am wondering where to draw the line. As far as clothes are concerned I really hadn't worn that many of them, partly because of 2 pregnancies in a row and partly because they just don't suit me - i have been a bit of a buy it on a whim type of person in the past and having two small children has made me want to be very organised in everything especially having just a few outfits to hand that fit me, look nice, are comfy and clean. What i'm saying is, although i've gotten rid of 3 wardrobes full and haven't much left there wasn't really much point in keeping it all and thus shouldn't feel guilty should i? Part of me feels v.liberated and the other half thinks 'oh dear!' Plan to build wardrobe up slowly and started last week ordering the basics.
Now after rambling on here is my question: Should i be selling my clothes on ebay or in a carboot sale, we have one planned for this weekend but am wondering if all these clothes will sell, may look like a bit of shop rather than a stand if you see what i mean. Problem with ebay is don't have the time to take photo's and monitor etc.. although all clothes have been washed and most are ironed...
I have books on my bookshelves (best friends guides and lots of baby books) that i haven't really read since pregnancy one and although i don't intend to read them anymore It feels strange to be parting with so much at one time - but God knows when i'll have the time and energy to do another carboot.
Should i be ruthless and get rid of it all?
Any suggestions for a carboot sale pls?
Any tips? Should i label prices or just make up as i go along. Would you buy almost new maternity clothes and used in a carboot sale? I have clothes racks and all my clothes are really presentable.
Thanks for all the tips etc..

Put your best items on e-bay and take the rest to a carboot, people at carboots don't want to spend much so don't price things too high. Maybe take the maternity clothes to a NCT sale or on MN?

ebay it - what is left carboot.

You can get more money from ebay but you have the hassle of storing it and posting it etc. Carboot you get rid quick but less money - depends what you are after really - money or clearing out.

Ok. Thanks.
Can i ask how much you think is reasonable for carboot prices with regard to everyday maternity wear?
Top, blouses etc.. from everyday stores.

it varies so much TBH maternity stuff is prob better on ebay as people will go on there specifically to look - whereas a car boot sale is more hit and miss.

At a car boot sale I never really pay more than £2 for clothes (I am quite cheap ) but on ebay I would pay up to £20

DimpledThighs · 03/05/2007 18:27

thing about car boot is that you can always drop the price if things aren't selling.

We've just had a clear out as well. School is doing a car boot so all the 'crappy' stuff like naffo vases, clothes airers for the radiator, pictures etc are going to that. Maternity clothes and kids clothes are going on ebay.

Perhaps your maternity things are worth selling on mumsnet or ebay? I have made quite a bit selling my nicest things on ebay (the rest goes to local charity shop as I cant face car boots).
Does sounds like they mat clothes might be too nice to virtually give away, but of course depends on how much you want to shift it all.
Do you have friends who might need them?

Car boot it all, Chacha! And preferably near me! Ha ha! Car boots are ok but the problem is (my dada is a car boot king so i hear this every monday after he's carbooted on a sunday) that since you can buy kids clothes so cheap now as new, people won't pay much at car boots, even if they're decent stuff. If youy are doing a car boot and you have got loads of stuff you could always put a sign behind you saying tops £1, dresses £3 etc so you don't get asked 300 times how much stuff is. Don't forget your flask of tea and watch out for folk nicking stuff from your boot or from your beautifully presented paste table while you set up!!
