Advice please about painting internal doors a 'colour'.

I am in the process of decorating my hallway. I painted inside the front door Farrow and Ball pavillion grey but I dislike it. I really want to paint it downpipe or hague blue or french grey.

However my hallway is small with light coloured floorboards and is very much a thoroughfare only. Leading off it are four doors, all of which are currently white. I was wondering if I painted inside the front door, if I should then paint all the sides of the internal doors in the hallway the same colour?

Alternatively, I could paint the skirtings and inside the front door only a 'colour' and leave the doors white but I think this might look odd if I paint the architraves around the internal doors but leave them white?

Has anyone painted their halls like this or does anyone have any ideas?

i went for Hague blue on walls, architraves and doors, so everything the same colour. It worked very well to show off the mouldings.

White does pop nicely against those dark colours though so I would probably be inclined to leave your doors and architraves white.

I bought a tester of Hague blue today. It’s for a tiny toilet. It might be too dark. I really want it though!

Would you leave the inside of the front door white too? Or go ahead and paint in downpipe?

I'd probably leave that white too so it goes with your other doors.

Only you can say if Hague Blue is too dark but maybe give it a try? It's only paint after all :)

I tried painting doors a different colour. It was a lesson I learnt. For doors and skirting boards white looks sharper and cleaner.

A tip an interior designer said a design trick was to do everything: walls, skirting, doors. Makes it look more expensive. You'll be surprised at even a small loo would look great with a dark colour. Hague blue is fab.

It’s only paint. As long as you don’t mind painting over it again if you hate it then be brave and go for it!

All my interior doors are dark grey, my front door is a bright aqua blue inside and out, and all the trim is white. I'm happy with it!

I like the idea of the doors, walls and skirtings being the same colour but surely it depends on the chosen colour? If all white, I imagine it can look very cheap without a very beautiful wooden floor. I think it particularly suits a dark paint.

We have four internal doors off our first floor hallway and we painted each of them a different really bright colour on the hallway side - inside of the door is the same cream colour as the rest of the woodwork in the house One is a bright raspberry, one sunshine yellow, one bright blue and one bright green. The colour of the door then gives the cue to the dominant colour in the room - eg bright yellow door, pale yellow paint, yellow stripy wallpaper. We love it and it adds a lovely bit of colour. Our decorators had never been asked to do anything like it before! Pic shows the 'blue room'
