Housemove - recycling. WWYD?

I’m moving ina few weeks. We are substantial recyclers here with things being collected on alternate weeks, so plastic one week, cardboard the next and whichever way I plan this, I will have bags of plastic and/or cardboard. Do I take it with me? Or is it reasonable to leave in the garage and expect the new owners to put it out on the kerb on collection day?

Are you moving within the same council area? If so take it with you. Otherwise I'd be planning a trip to the local tip a day or so before the move.

Can’t you take it to the local recycling centre (tip)? We sometimes do that if we have lots

MumGoneMild · 18/02/2018 09:14

Take it, you don't leave rubbish for the new people to deal with, they will have their own

Katescurios · 18/02/2018 09:17

Can you contact the council and request a collection.? Ours do 1 free large items collection and 1 free garden collection every 2 months then you can pay a nominal sum for extras if need be.

I think if it’s sorted (clean) and in the council containers, then it’s fair game.

In the utility room, ready to be sorted, would definitely be out of order.

I guess, be considerate! I would be minded to ask solicitors to bill you if you left me a pile of dirty dog food tins and they certainly wouldn’t be recycled. (Although in reality would not have the energy!) If it were left tidy , I would appreciate being shown which box was for which material.

My council charges for everything and I’m already bleeding money...

So, all the paper, plastics and are goIng Friday and we move Tuesday so going to take my cardboard (and metal which is not much) to the dump the Sunday.

The black wheelie bin will have one bin bag in it and the garden wheelie bin will be about a quarter full although tbf that because I’ve tidied the garden for them.

Does that sound reasonable?

Don’t you have recycling points at your supermarkets? All of mine have them.

squiggletea · 18/02/2018 19:28

We don’t have recycling at any supermarket anymore.

MamaDuckling · 18/02/2018 22:03

Take it with you or organize to have it taken to the tip. I recently moved into a house with a similar alternative week system and every single bin was overflowing. No room for any of my own moving waste (think IKEA)! I was livid. Council weren't interested.

MamaDuckling · 18/02/2018 22:04

Think that sounds fair Goldie!
