Ok, very very dull, but how do I clean my oven?

Even by my extremely low standards, I have to admit that my oven is really minging, and MIL keeps dropping hints about her slut of a daughter in law . Not even hints really anymore, just outright disgust . I don't know where to start - which product? Nothing too toxic if poss, but needs to be very effective!

oooh, there are people you can get in to do that for you! I paid £53 to have mine cleaned and it was money well spent!

hot water with lemons in baking tray- stick in oven at high heat and steam it

or oven pride with chemicals and bags and gets racks sparkling again

there's also company called oven angels- which have always fancied getting to come but worried in case mine is the worst they've ever seen

£53 is that all!?
I'd pay someone £500 to clean mine LOL
it too is pretty minging

friendlyedjit · 02/05/2007 14:23

oop.....have double clicked again!!

Oblomov · 02/05/2007 14:24

£53 is not bad at all, I didn't realise that it was that cheap.

BibiThree · 02/05/2007 14:26

I'd try Oven Pride before forking out £50+ for someone though, it's good stuff if you use it properly. Can be a little messy but effective. Bright orange and navy box I think, ususally on the high shelf in tescos as only tall people need clean their ovens apparently

friendlyedjit · 02/05/2007 14:26

gobbledigook- who did yours?
and was it mankey?

southeastastra · 02/05/2007 14:30

wait until it's hot, then scrape out as much goo as possible with a knife, then use wire wool. easy

Gobbledigook · 02/05/2007 16:26

Company was called Ovenu - it's a local business though.

He took the whole thing apart and put lots of the bits in some big tank thing in the back of his van. Took him over 2 hours. It was like a new oven.

It's not a job I have time to do, never mind enjoy!

there's a cleaner that lakeland ltd does which is fab - you paint it on and leave it for a few hours then wipe it off

after that just give it 10 mins once a month with some steel wool and washing up liquid
