Does your washing machine rinse well?

If it does then what make is it?

Unless I wait for my machine to finish the cycle with 5 rinses and then add at least another 2 rinses then there are still bubbles around the door. I'm already using about 1/4 of the washing powder the box recommends. I also wet a towel and add that at the beginning so that when it weighs the washing it thinks there's more. My reasoning for this is it'll use more water to rinse but it's still not clearing the bubbles.

I want another machine anyway because I'm finding 7kg too small for our family of 4. I really want a 10kg or above machine so that rules Mille out of my budget. I'd also want one that weighs the clothes for the days when I won't be filling it to the max.

Any recommendations?

Our Miele is great for rinsing but I do have to use waterplus.

Maybe Bosch as they have aquaplus which increase the rinses?

Top tip about drum size - don’t look too much at the KG, look at the drum volume in litres. My 7kg Miele holds more than my brothers 9kg Hotpoint

slowsloth · 17/02/2018 14:55

Thanks for the reply EcoCleaner. I'll look into the weight/drum size but I would have thought that even if the drum is bigger you should still not fill it with more clothes and exceed the 7kg weight. I'm going to be spending a fair bit of time researching washing machines this weekend I think. The machine I have at the moment washes and rinses as well as it ever has done. I think I've just become aware of washing chemicals being left on the clothes and being against our skin so I've become extra fussy.

Do you deep clean your washing machine regularly? By that I mean running a 90c wash on empty every now and then. Could it be a product build up? Also some detergents are foamier than others. I take it you are in a v soft water area?

slowsloth · 17/02/2018 19:08

Yes, I'm in a soft water area. It could be build up, I've recently washed lots of baby clothes from dd1 for DD2 and that was a lot of washing and I haven't ran a clean since. Thanks, I'll do that.

I also have bubbles round the door, but most frustrating is that all the clothes come out with white marks on. Does anyone know why this is?

kimlo · 17/02/2018 19:22

raisins are you overloading the machine?

GrimDamnFanjo · 18/02/2018 00:58

Run a 90 with a load of white vinegar - that will sort it out.

@slowsloth, you’d be shocked at the way washing machines are weight “graded”.

Manufacturers are allowed to use every inch of drum space - clothes are professionally folded, stacked top to bottom and back to front, and even using the rubber door boot.

And the best bit of all, the door is allowed to be OPEN.

Would love to know how anyone is able to wash this way Grin.

To answer you question, I have a Samsung “eco bubble” machine, it rinses fairly well (can select up to 5 rinses on most cycles). Only thing that does annoy me is on my current one, the eco bubble feature can’t be turned off if desired (my previous Samsung allowed that).

slowsloth · 18/02/2018 17:24

e1y1 that's so interesting, I had no idea that that's how they worked out the weight. I've obviously never weighed my laundry before putting it in the machine. I once read to fill the drum no more than 80% so that's what I do.
I have a samsung eco bubble and it's the five rinses I usually do but then add another 2 or 3 once it's finished.

Thank you to those who suggested to run a wash with no clothes in to clean it. I ran the 'eco drum clean' earlier with lots of white vinegar and then did a wash and it was much better, I was happy with it after the five rinses Grin

I've started doing half loads but they still come out with white lines on! So frustrating. I've got a AEG machine.

slowsloth · 20/02/2018 07:49

Raisinsraisins Is your machine really old? Could it be a component within the machine deteriorating? This happened to someone I knew and it got worse until it was small clumps of grey powder on the clothes.

It's only a few years old... It's so frustrating to have to call a repair man out, as I'd have to take the day of from work ...

Bigtree83 · 22/02/2018 21:48

Just curious, are you using powder for whites and liquids for colours? Powder contains bleach, so great for whites, but will fade your colours. Also, adjust your dosage of detergent depending on the load. AEG are actually the best for load detection and more recent machines guarantee to not fade your clothes. They get a good write up. I think they make John Lewis branded appliances too and they wouldn't have a rubbish products with their name on it.

Notgotajarofglue · 25/02/2018 21:53

Don't use detergent for a few weeks when washing. There sounds like there's enough of a product build up in your clothes to wash them without adding more

llangennith · 25/02/2018 22:02

Maybe it’s not emptying properly between rinses? Or the drain hose isn’t at a downward angle?
I do at least one 90deg wash a week and use a washing machine cleaner every few weeks. Soft water here.

brownelephant · 25/02/2018 22:07

my miele rinses well, but I have to use a lot less detergent or I will have a foam party.
(I use about 1/4 to 1/3 of powder as advised on the pack, stuff still comes out clean)
