How do you store your potatoes?

I read recently that they shouldn’t be stored in the fridge. Bought a potato storage tin with ventilation and put it in cold garage. They are sprouting after 2 days. Tried sacking with same result. What’s the answer?

Just in a box in a cupboard. We usually eat them before they start to sprout so I'm not entirely sure how long they would last, but certainly a week.

I mean just an old storage box, not any sort of specialist potato box. Also keep onions in with them, and any other root vegetables we happen to have.

I keep mine in a linen bag in a dark, dry corner cupboard. There is sometimes a little one a forget about that sprouts after a while.

In a paper sack with an apple! Tip from my dad seems to work well I still have potatoes left from Christmas

mommy is that at room temperature? Most impressed with Christmas potatoes.

In an open tub in a cupboard in the kitchen along with other veg e.g. onions

Potatoes will sprout this time of year, they are wanting to start growing again. Just take the sprouts off before you cook them.

I store mine in shredded paper in a trug in the office. But then again, I did grow them. Shop bought jacket spuds, in a dark cupboard.

I keep mine in a wicker waste paper basket in the cupboard under the stairs.

In the veg rack, but am curious about the apple and paper bag.

In my unheated garden shed, in a banana box from the supermarket draped in heavy black fabric. Can't remember when exacty I harvested them, late last summer, they are still fine.

mommybear1 · 08/02/2018 18:24

Hi sorry for delay I keep mine in the dark in the garage so it's fairly cold.

newyearwhoohoo · 08/02/2018 18:24

Oooh in the fridge. Never head about not storing spuds in fridge. What's the issue with that? They taste ok and don't sprout until about a month old.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 08/02/2018 18:26

Cotton bag in cool cupboard. Pick off any sprouts before using; they're not poison, just a good sign that the potatoes are healthy (as my nanny used to say)

e1y1 · 08/02/2018 21:21

In the supermarket or in my stomach Grin.

In all seriousness, I only buy potatoes if I know I need them for a meal in the next few days as if I stock them they never get eaten. It’s Exactly the same with Eggs and Bacon.

Littlelambpeep · 08/02/2018 21:41

I just keep mine in a wicker basket on the kitchen counter. We use a lot so about ten days max.

I tend to boil and mash potatoes and freeze into portions for quick mid week meals
