Burnt Pot

TheRugbyValkyrie · 22/01/2018 21:24

Thought I would try making rice pudding on the stove.
Unfortunately, having the attention span of a goldfish, I became engrossed in the newspaper and burnt it.
I now have a thick black crust on the bottom of my favourite cooking pot which is defying all attempts to shift it.
Does anyone have any advice?

Water and washing powder boiled until the burned stuff lifts.

Ecover Laundry Bleach with boiling water is amazing on burnt pans.
Lifts everything off.

This has worked for me a few times. Fill the pot with water, throw in a dishwasher tablet or two & bring to the boil. When it cools down the burnt stuff should be loose enough to scrub off.

I made marmalade the other weekend and boiled the oranges while for a couple of hours

I looked at the pot every now & again and topped up the water but then got distracted doing some gardening

DD said “Muuum it’s smells smoky in here”

Oops

Blackened preserving pan

Poor old DH took on the task of scouring it, took him a good half hour

Boiling water & bicarb, leave it for an hour & wash as normal.

Unfortunately I have to contend with burnt pots frequently ( for this reason I only cook rice in the microwave using a rice cooker - Lakeland/ John Lewis!) so my top tip is to remove as much of the burnt stuff as possible and boil the pan full of water with a scoop of biological washing powder in it for about 10 mins then clean off the burnt bits ( repeat as necessary ) . I have saved many pans this way - good luck

Thank you, thank you all of you for your replies.
Bio powder, a good boil and a bit of scrubbing has solved the problem.
