Vacuum Cleaner Recommendations?

HarrietSmith · 17/01/2018 17:02

Used to have a Miele Cat and Dog vacuum cleaner, which died after some years faithful service. We don't actually have a cat any more - but it was good at picking up human hair. I then bought a bagless vacuum cleaner, but this too has died - it was a Samsung and I think it had a shorter life than the Miele.

Seeking recommendations. I'd rather not spend an arm and two legs, but would pay a bit more for one that actually does the business and is durable.

I love my miele cat and dog which I got long before we got a cat. Any particular reason why you wouldn't choose this again?

Love love love my Neato. We have a very large very hairy dog but my house is spotless with no effort. We were lucky and got it in the sales in the run up to christmas.
It's amazing and maps out where it has hoovered and reports back to an app on your phone. Ours hoovers everyday at 10am.

Stick with bags. Miele, Sebo or Numatic are the best.

If you have carpets and get a cylinder, make sure you get one with the air driven turbo brush (like a Cat & Dog or Henry Xtra), they’re essential on carpet and make it easier to use

I think I might go back to the Miele Cat and Dog - buying the bags was tedious. But maybe it's worth it. And there was a discount place selling the discount kind.

I keep seeing Shark recommended - are they that good or has there been a huge social media campaign?

UniversityAlreadyQuestionMark · 19/01/2018 15:49

Sarah it's funny you said that - we got a shark recently and I came to the same conclusion. It's fidly to use and keeps falling over. It's powerful - but too powerful in carpets.

I like our Dyson (the type where you don't have to reverse the extension tube to use it, and the Henry extra that we got for building work but kept.

MontyPythonsFlyingFuck · 19/01/2018 15:53

I have an ancient Dyson which is brilliant but can't go on for ever, but my DM has a much newer (and more expensive) one which really, really isn't - feels very flimsy and wobbly and the build quality is nothing like as good.

Also, I won't buy another Dyson because of his Brexit position. So I'm interested in what others have found best!

mommybear1 · 19/01/2018 16:34

I also had the meile cat and dog faithfully old thing for over 11 years it felt victim to building dust Thanks. I have after much deliberation gone for a Bosch athlet it's better than I expected.

EcoCleaner · 20/01/2018 10:52

MontyPythonsFlyingFuck James Dyson made some comments recently that firing people should be easier. Not only is he a Brexit-wanker, Tory-toff tax dodger, he also wants his workforce to be stripped of their employment rights.

Oh and not to mention he’s a liar. Dyson vacuums DO lose suction. You have to keep washing the filters out to keep the suction up. And they also weren’t the first bagless vacuums.

wowfudge · 20/01/2018 11:16

Sebo X4 - we have the pet model despite having no pets as it has a boost button. Very impressed with it after switching from a bagless vac. A service pack contains a number of bags and replacement filters. Available online from numerous retailers, including Amazon and from JL.

mommybear1 We bought the Henry just for building dust with a plan to sell it on afterwards. We were so impressed we've ended up keeping it.

mommybear1 · 21/01/2018 21:42

Thanks University we got a Titan to cope with the building dust but I have heard good things about Henry's
