I have one and it is good but I'm not sure its £250 worth of good. It is quicker, particularly if you do big piles of ironing. If you do bits here and there I wouldn't bother. Quite honestly I don't care if clothes are really, really flat or just mostly flat. If you do then think about getting one. They are bloody heavy and big so think about where you're going to put it. They are not things of beauty!

eeek do you know how it works - what it does thats different to a normal iron? I can see thqat you fill a tank at the bottom - how does that water get into the iron? and why is it better than a normal one?

I have a Tefal one that cost 160 quid ish (bought it in euro's so bit diff). IT IS FAB!!! the steam gets into the iron by means of a tube that runs from the tank. For ironing linen, sheets, duvet covers, table cloths it is fantastic. I have also taken down the curtains, washed them and ironed them and out them back up, which I could never bear to do before as it too forever to iron them.

The other great thing is that you can hang suits and delicates on a hanger, hang them up and press the steam button and creases just drop out. No more pressing suit jackets.

I love it - wish I had bought one years ago

Definitely worth the money (if you're near a Costco, they often have them on offer - ours is Tefal and was £99 +VAT) it cuts the time taken to do the ironing by about half and is really easy!

dweezle · 30/04/2007 13:39

We have one of these - 2nd InTheseShoes suggestion re Costco - we bought ours from there and it was cheaper than anything we found on internet. We run a B&B and do all laundry ourselves - with steam generator iron I can fold sheets in 4, iron front and back and they look beautiful.

CantSleepWontSleep · 30/04/2007 13:46

I have one. Cost about £200. We normally take ironing to a shop to be done, but did it ourselves (well, dh did ) for a few weeks to recoup the cost.

My mother also has one, and does lots of ironing (she likes ironing, strange woman that she is), and absolutely loves it. Much quicker and easier than a normal steam iron.

If you can afford it then I'd def say go for it.

NotanOtter · 30/04/2007 22:49

fabulous advice will pass it on to mama apronstrings who is very busy.............................................................ironing!

MamaApronstrings · 02/05/2007 11:37

thanks everyone - I am going to get one - I have always liked tefal, I am another strange woman who quite likes ironing - and I do iron everything. I also make my own curtains/blinds etc so it will be really handy for that too.

How sad to be all excited at the prospect of a new iron!
