Dark cotten bedding covered in crap after washing

Please help! I am ready to throw this bedding out if I can't sort the issue.

Everytime I wash my dark purple bedsheets they end up covered in residue. Pic attached. I use colour bio washing powder and it happens with conditioner and no conditioner. I wash at either 60 or 90. Do regular maintenence washes on the machine. It happens when I wash them alone and with other things like towels. It is improved slightly if I take them out, shake and then put back in for a rinse but still marked.

This doesn't happen with dark clothes or my white and blue bedding. Only my dark sheets. Please help!

are you overfilling the mashine with bedding?
you need to comfortably fit a hand carate style on top of the washing inside the drum.

I would use less powder and add an extra rinse at the end.

I use washing liquid for dark colours for this very reason, powder for light colours only.

This happens to me when I wash dark woolens - nothing else.

The only way round it I've found is an extra rinse.

Theresnonamesleft · 08/01/2018 08:31

Are you putting in too much powder?

JellyBeanPaws · 08/01/2018 08:31

Over-filling machine? Too much washing powder? Bloody frustrating.

wonkylegs · 08/01/2018 08:34

I'd say you are putting in too much washing and too much powder.

Try putting in a smaller load and less washing powder so it has a chance to rinse through properly. You get a problem with larger items if they are squashed in as the water doesn't circulate as well to rinse off the residue.

I've found that washing powder can be reduced to almost half the amount on the box for a normal load and it still gets clean.

Overfilling isn't an issue. I wash these sheets on their own and they don't fill the drum.

Good point about the powder. I never use liquid as I heard it was bad for the machine but it should be fine if used occasionally and at a higher temperature. Thanks!

I’ve ended up getting rid of dark purple bedding for this - mostly because it showed the tiny bits of feathers from the quilt really obviously - white doesn’t do that
