My personal journey to organised living

I know that there are lots of threads on here about decluttering and keeping on top of housework but none really hit the spot with me. I don’t follow flylady and I find it hard to be part of a thread that posts every day given I work full days 4 week days per week.
So, I’ve started my own for my own personal motivation and to use rather lack a planner and a journal. I want to encompass meal planning, budgeting and organisation as well as keeping on top of housework and DIY plans. You never know I may pick up others along the way or my musings may strike a cord with one or two of you. I may become so organised I can even join the fly lady thread….
I’m just back – late last night – from a holiday and was straight back to work this morning so I am drowning in washing. I left DD1 home alone (she is 21) and whilstthe house was tidy she had not touched any washing and I had left an empty washing basket before I went.

Hello Sonnet I like the idea of a weekly plan. How did it go for you? Did you manage to get the mountain of laundry somewhat reduced at least?

Sonnet · 09/01/2018 15:21

Hi Katplav,
i have completely got on top of laundry and completed all on my tasks.

This week I was suppose to be concentrating on sorting out drawers (Did Maria Kondo 18 months ago but things are just a little untidy!)
BUT - my cleaner that comes fortnightly has just quit so I need a plan to encompass weekly cleaning...
still keeping on top of laundry and ironing though by doing a load a day and ironing it the next

Wow! You sound so organised! I need to write out a plan to tackle my house every week. At the moment, with two small boys, it is difficult to keep on top of the cleaning so I tend to focus my efforts on the piles of washing two babies can create. Your post has inspired me so much though to get more organised, thank you.
I've never had a cleaner, would you recommend it?

Good idea. I;m doing a similar sort of thing but struggling just to get dishes clear in the kitchen at the minute!

Ive started a spreadsheet with all the household jobs on it and the frequency they need done and approx how long they'll take.

I think I'd like all the months printed out with a tick box of everything, ideally to get me & dh to get up and do an hours work on a Saturday and be done! Would be useful to look back at the end of the year to see what was a struggle and also to make notes of any jobs that could have gone a bit longer before being down.

I'm having a look for jobs that could be forgotten about - I've added an annual job of buying a batch of all the birthday cards needed for the year in one go as this has worked well before, then a job every month of writing and sorting the cards and presents for that month.

I'm also going to add in cutting grass and tidying shed as realistically, we do very little housework in summer as always pottering in the garden! So will have to confine the boring overhaul internal jobs to winter months
