Tumble dryer - heat pump or vented?

We're going to get our first tumble dryer. The position of it means that we could get a vented or a condensing one.

The vented ones seem to be cheaper and have a lower energy rating than the condensers, but from what I've read are more effective as they dry faster.

John Lewis has some heat pump dryers which are A+ rated and I'm wondering whether this would be as effective as a vented dryer, despite still being condensers. They are considerably more expensive so we'd only be able to get a cheaper model, which may make a difference too. Any thoughts?

Vented!

weve got a heat pump condenser and it works really well. They're much more energy efficient that the old vented ones and dont cause any steam/condensation/damp in the room like the vented ones can. Id get the best heat pump condenser you can afford.

We have just changed from vented to heat pump as kitchen remodel meant couldn’t vent it.
The heat pump is a Miele and the vented was a Beko so we went from budget brand vented to premium brand heat pump.

The vented was much quicker and better at drying. My friend now has our old one and she even commented on how much better it was then her previous condenser model.

you have to tune the heat pump condensers a bit, they have 5 different dryness settings, they do take longer but use far less electricity (as the motor isnt on constantly) Mine is self cleaning so you dont have to empty is or clean it, just defluff.

We have a Beko heat pump and it’s great. Got it for £300 from AO on special offer.

Thanks all. That's interesting Flomper about the damp as I had assumed that the vented ones wouldn't create any steam in the room as it would all be directed outside. The corner where it will be is quite cold and a bit prone to condensation (although we're working on that problem) so that's a useful thing to consider.

We've never had a problem with our vented one. It’s been going for about 5 years with no issue and moving House.

I think you get damp etc if it isn’t properly vented - not as a matter of course.

I'll definitely have it properly vented through the wall if we do go for that kind.

WeeM which Beko model do you have?
