Fur beetles - help me get rid of them please!

Woke up last night to use the bathroom and found a small black beetle on my leg! Freaked out, squashed it, hit Google for identification. I'm 99.9% sure it's a fur beetle. Does anyone have any personal experience with these and how did you get rid of them? I believe hoovering like mad, washing bedding on hot, suffocating soft toys? (As in vacuum bagging to kill bugs on toys, obviously). Should this do it?

Are these similar to carpet beetles? I am plagued by them. I have a couple of sprays and a bomb. I've eliminated them from two rooms but it's a constant battle.

I think they are yes, it is either a fur beetle or a black carpet beetle but I think they are all similar. Found it so hard to sleep last night after finding it on me. Urgh. I'm currently looking at traps and sprays, have one lot of bedding tumble drying and have ordered some vacuum seal bags. There's so much to do though! Any tips/advice you can offer from your experience so far?

Woolie bears (aka carpet beetle larvae) are a couple mm in length and have 'fur' and are stripey. Research from experience unfortunately.

We moved in to an old house that had wool carpets and had been vacant for about a year. Humans moved out and insects (and mice) moved in! Called in environmental health to identify them. Not harmful to humans but a pain to get rid off. Lots of hoovering and carpet beetle spray stopped the beetle population but we still had evidence of the larvae for years after.

Good luck with your little furry friends. They won't bite Grin

Yes definitely carpet beetles, after spending the whole day vacuuming the house and washing all the bedding, we pulled out the sofa to do underneath and found the source of infestation and the larvae. It was grim. Have carpet and sofa a thorough going over and will steam and spray today. Did you get rid of them first time or did it take you a while? I'm worried they'll have spread :-(

We did get rid of the beetles pretty quickly but we did see the odd *woolly (sorry misspelled on earlier post) bear for years after - often crawling up a wall. I didn't find them too much of a problem to control though.

Good luck with it!
