Steam cleaners

I have been thinking about getting one for a long time. No idea what is best, what budget, etc. I am looking for something that can clean bathroom and kitchen tiles, floors, etc? Where do i start, and are they really that great? I've been using a Vileda mop for years and years.

I've had mine a couple of years, can't remember the brand at the moment but it was reduced to £40 from about £80 and came with loads of attachments to tiles, windows etc and has a mop head to use on the floors and a gliding thing so you can steam carpets too.
I love my one and it work brilliantly, makes cleaning floors much quickler and reduces drying time too. I do pop a bit of cleaner in the tank with the water but it's not needed.

The H20 ones are good IMHO. Our last one died eventually so I bought a shark one (it was on offer in Argos), crap, when really I should have bought another H20. Have to wait for this one to die now as too tight to buy a new one.

I have a Polti vaporetto cylinder for the carpets and upholstery as it has a high pressure. Had it for about 4 years but don't use it weekly.
If it ever conked, I'd want to have a look at the Karcher range as having several other of their products, I'm impressed with them.

Uprights, mops with other functions as well, I've had 2 Thane H2O the first one got too much limescale and the second just stopped working after about a year. Okay while they work but too unreliable to try a third.

I bought this on offer from Amazon last year.

I've only used it as a hard floor cleaner, cushionfloor and stone, - do buy extra spare pads though - and am very impressed with the way it cleans and sanitises (I am the saddo that bought a UV torch to see if it worked like it does on the telly demos) and leaves the floors almost dry afterwards.
If it clapped out tomorrow, I'd have another. Can't comment on the other things it does but hard floors as above it's the best I have had so far.

We had an H20 one and it was shit. The first one broke within 6 weeks so they replaced it and that one went within 4 months.

We got a Vax one which was really good and is still going strong about 3 years later. However 6 months or so ago we got a Shark steam mop free with our hoover, it’s ina different league to the others. It’s much easier to convert from a mop to a handheld and cleans better IMO.

We have a Shark. It's quite good for floors, but a bit slow. It's good for things like blasting dirt from tricky corners in the hand held mode. I don't use every day but good for a deeper clean.

I have a katcher and a shark one.

Had the karcher for years and it's really good, the only thing I don't like is that it a pull along (like a henry vacuum)
The shark came as a free gift with a new vacuum, I don't like it at all, it just doesn't make very good contact with the floor, like it's poorly balanced. The connection point is at the rear of the floor plate, so there's no pressure on most of the cleaning plate, on the karcher it's central so much better contact.

Got a vax I think after ages researching best reviews. It's shit, don't bother

I have a dirt devil 11 in 1. Was under £40 and I’ve had it 3 years.

It does the job. I use it mainly for hard Floors and it does a great job. Also use it to freshen up my carpets every now and again and to steam the toilets and mattresses.

One of my friends had a expensive one at the time and she said she couldn’t justify the price to recommend it. As long as it steams it does the job.

I do empty the tank and store it upside down as I’ve heard a lot of people say they clog up with limescale otherwise.

Summerdays2014 · 28/12/2017 13:45

Can you use these on real wood floor that have not been varnished?

dudsville · 28/12/2017 16:58

I bought a steam cleaner for the first time and just tried using it. I think I need to read the instructions. Should you press the steam button all the time?

MinniesAndMickeysNeedCounting · 28/12/2017 17:19

dudsville it will depend on the steamer.

One of mine you have to hold in a button under the handle, the other just dreams once it's turned on.

Don't think they're recommended on unsealed floors

Appleandcinnamon · 28/12/2017 17:21

I’ve got two. The latest h2o and a shark. Equally as good as each other but I still think it’s cleaner when I do it myself on my hands and knees Hmm
