And he thought it was fun, so I asked him if he wanted to do it every week and he asked how much he would have to pay me. I generously agreed to let him do it for free. I caught him using the special under the bed tool on the Dyson (I didn't even realise I had told him what it was for).

He also peels and chops carrots for tea. We are a bit sick of carrots now, but he isn't.

My son is a domestic god.

Brilliant
My 2 year old ds dusts and fights me for the hoover and broom.

funnypeculiar · 19/04/2007 22:35

sends him round here when you're finished with him

Wotzsaname · 19/04/2007 22:36

Can you send him round in the morning please?
I have much mess.

twentypence · 19/04/2007 23:10

He does do tidying - but it's a bit random.

Wouldn't trust him with water except outside.

Not tall enough for effective dusting.

Today was his first solo vacuum, and the house does actually look pretty good.

dd, 2, helps me put the washing in the machine. Takes twice as long but she enjoys it . I've also found the kitchen mop in various places, she usually tries mopping the living room rug! She's plays with the dustpan and brush and will go round with the feather duster. She's has far more inclination to do housework than I do . I'm going to get her a mini set of housework tools so she can help. Do you know those mini dysons actually pick up?

LilRedWG · 20/04/2007 09:02

Twentypence - can I please adopt your son? I'd pay him 20p to vacuum my entire house, including the dustbunnies under the bed.

Devonshire · 20/04/2007 09:04

my dd (3) has started "helping" me by cleaning anything and everything with babywipes, the ones with baby lotion in, so we have very streaky, smeary windows, tv etc.
i haven't the heart to stop her, she thinks she is helping me

sockmonkey · 20/04/2007 09:04

DS2 actually likes to sweep, and pull things out of the washing machine & put them in the basket. This training your LOs to do housework is a brilliant plan.

LilRedWG · 20/04/2007 09:05

Unfortunately, they all grow out of it!

twentypence · 20/04/2007 10:26

We cleaned the car - he does the alloy wheels, then he spent an hour kicking a ball around the garden like a normal child.

I know it's a phase - but it's a good phase.

My daughter and I share the laundry. She likes to put things in and take them out of the machine. I sort and hang. It works for us.

She's obsessed with brooms too, I have to hide them from her

does he do housecalls?

northstar · 20/04/2007 15:22

Twentypence my ds vacuumed the whole driveway
twigs, leaves, dirt, dead grass, insects, you name it he vaccuumed it. And I only left the hoover there for a minute while I went to get the car keys.

MamaG · 20/04/2007 15:25

i love "today was his first solo vacuum"

twentypence · 20/04/2007 19:35

Dh said at the end of term - "do you think he's learned anything at kindy?" I replied that I thought he had actually unlearnt some stuff (for instance he's hiding the fact that he can read from them), but his sweeping was coming on a treat.

My friend's DS once had an Inset day off school, providing a rare day with mum, without his siblings. She gave him free choice what they could do. "Can we stay in an clean the house, Mummy?" he says.

Un-natural. But I am so , sitting here in my wreck of a post-weekend house that I can't get motivated to tackle.
