Fridge Freezer only freezing on "fast freeze" mode

Hi everyone!

I have a Hotpoint RFAA52K fridge freezer (approx 6 years old). Yesterday I noticed some foods seemed a bit cold but not completely frozen.

I switched the fast freeze on and the food returned to being fully frozen. However I then turned off the fast freeze overnight and again I can detect some of the food is less frozen.

Any ideas what may be wrong? Would keeping the appliance on fast freeze going forward be a solution or do I need to take more drastic action?

Many thanks,

smudge44

It's not kept in a garage or somewhere really cold is it? Combined fridge freezers often have a single thermostat so if the outside temperature is lower than the fridge temperature then it switches the motor off. I had this when my last fridge was kept in a conservatory, in winter the freezer just stopped freezing. Only solution was to bring it somewhere warmer

Yes @Alwaysatyke it's kept in our garage. We had a particularly cold Saturday night / Sunday day time so I did wonder about that.

For more background, we recently moved and this is the first Winter the fridge freezer has been in the garage rather than the kitchen.

Sounds like that's the problem then. When I looked into it the only options were to bring it somewhere warmer or buy separates

We don't have anywhere warmer and separates isn't ideal - but may turn out to be our only option as I'm sure Winter will only get colder.

Only certain makes are suitable for use in a garage. Think beko makes ones ok for lower temperatures

I second the outside temperature theory. We've got the same fridge but much older - and had the opposite problem. It was in a south facing window. In the summer we had to take to bottom grill off the front and have a fan blowing on it to keep it cool Grin
