De-cluttering with limited time to spare

I have about half a hour spare, five days a week. I really want to start getting rid of things as the amount of stuff I have is ridiculous. I gave lots of storage, so it isn't a problem to keep it all, but I just don't want to do that anymore. I want to get sorted. My main issue is clothes - I have masses spanning all the seasons and three dress sizes (my weight fluctuates within about a stone).

I have the Marie kondo book, but I don't have the chunks of time that I would need to gather it all together and go through it all in categories.

So, How do I do this?

Could you do the Kondo method but in smaller chunks. So take your sock drawer one day, underwear the next, then tops, bottoms etc?

Yes, maybe that is the way to do it. I will need to plan well so that I accomplish things within the short time chunks that I have. Day one will be spent gathering large carrier bags together for the charity shop deluge to come!

I think half an hour five days is fine - maybe better because you just have to go for it.
Maybe don't do kondo strictly but maybe just have a large black bags for charity on the go and try and fill the bags.

Then only when you have got rid of as much as you can, get into the nitty gritty. It took me two months to do it (few years back) and still have to declutter all the time.

There's a of around that breaks all the categories into sub categories - link was on one of the Kondo threads in housekeeping. So start with socks and underwear then do whatever you think will be easiest for you of the others.

For stuff that doesn't fit be realistic if it's worth keeping and only keep if it is the right sort of shape and style - no point if you don't like it or if it's the wrong shape to fit you well... same if it's the wrong colour for your complexion!

I've been doing the bag a day for 40 days challenge. I love it. It's really helping to focus me on just a small area each day and not just end up a busy fool making more mess, slow and I steady and all that. I appreciate it's nothing Kondo related though!

I've done my pants, bras, socks and base layers (vests, long sleeve layering tops etc), tights and pyjamas so far. I have put off doing my proper clothes as it is so daunting but I will do it. I have more focus now. I've all done DS1's clothes, I still have DS2 to do. DH is in in the act and is going to do his clothes too. His books are another story ...

A bag a day is a good idea. It sounds very rewarding!

Excellent that's a great start!

I love decluttering. Especially the first big overhaul as you see such a difference.

I'm always impatient for the DC to outgrow huge bits of furniture (high chair, changing table etc) so they can go too.
