How do I stop my house stinking of dog?!

I am so fed up with my house, especially the lounge, stinking of dog constantly. Our lovely dog is getting a bit smellier the older she's getting, bless her! Love her dearly but I'm really struggling with the lingering smell, no matter how much I use shake n'vac, febreeze, etc.

Any tips on how to make my home smell less like stinky dog?!

Thanks, sounds like a good excuse to get my steam cleaner out which is gathering dust..

Stupid as it sounds I never actually thought to wash the dog! Blush

Definitely wash the dog, get teeth and glands checked, if stinky bum smells maybe review food and treats also could be an issue with sensitive skin causing the smell. We’ve had a couple of dogs with allergies/sensitive skin in old age which causes smellyness.

Also yes to steam clean and bicarbonate soda. Also try zoflora will get out any ingrained smells =]

We have a stinky dog too, he has a nasty skin problem so even though he’s bathed weekly he stinks a day later.

We have Yankee candles on the go all the time, find that helps. It’s not so bad in the summer when you can have all the doors and windows open.

I feel your pain!

Defo wash the dog obviously the smaller that dog the easier that is tho 😁

Wash her bed then buy some cheap fleece blankets to put over her bed and change them every other day. Primark does great ones for about £3 each which seem to come out of the washing machine almost dry.

Wooden floors.

I feel for you - I had a very old male dog who was a bit leaky and smelly towards the end.

Every day I washed his legs and belly outside, changed his bed covers, washed the hard floors with nice-smelling stuff and hoovered the carpet.
I had dishes of bicarb with essential oil dotted around.
I didn't invite many friends round!

It's hard to see them getting older and to be honest, the house never felt completely fresh, but it was probably cleaner than it's ever been!

I think the key with old doggies is helping them to stop smelling so regular baths really will help, our doggy was so stinky when he got old, that was the only way, he smelled lovely when he was younger!

What breed is she?

We have a staffie and although he doesnt smell too bad (just the lingering dog smell that we get used to but im sure guests can smell) i was getting frustrated with the fur everywhere.

We got a "furminator" and its the best brush i have ever used! We noticed that regular brushing with that reduced the amount of fur everywhere which means it doesnt smell as doggy.

Agree with others with regards to the fleece blankets. We also use them on the sofas and its easier to keep clean.

Also if your dog wears a collar, get a few more and keeo rotating them and keep them clean. Its amazing how much that helps!
