Smelly shirts

Why are 2 of Dh’s shirts (one actually a pyjama top),which claim to be 100% cotton on the label, get extra stinky? And only these?

He wears all his shirts for a day, then he washes them. But these particular shirts become really strongly body odorous by the end of the day. Usually he just smells a little bit sweaty like the rest of us would. But honestly, you can smell these shirts from across the room!

Btw, he doesn’t use deodorant or anti perspirant as he has eczema. I think he washes his stuff in non bio Persil on 40 degrees.

I found old threads about using dettol anti bacterial cleanser to help which I will try. But why just these shirts? Could they have been coated in something when manufactured?

Try pouring vinegar on the pits before you wash them?

Thanks! That was mentioned in this old thread. I always have my bottle of white vinegar and will try. Good to have it reaffirmed. Smile

Might also need to wash them hotter if he’s using non bio.

I have starting using the Dettol stuff in the wash for my Husbands sports tops as he said he could smell sweaty pits when in the gym in washed and clean tops. I think its the bacteria. I also noticed that some cheap Next tops go yellow in the armpits and stink after not that long despite us showering daily and using Mitchum deodorant. I have tops that I have had 4 years (White Stuff) which don't have this but I bought some tops in Next this year and have hardly worn them in comparison and they are basically good for throwing out now. Don't know what causes it but just must be some materials. Also I noticed in Tesco they had a "Sportswash" for clothes - but it was quite expensive and I concluded the Dettol in wash would do the same thing.

I find I need to wash DH's cotton shirts at 60 degrees using powder, not liquid, detergent to get rid of the sweaty smell

Great! Thanks. I will try all these. Smile

Soak shirt onto vinegar and hot water and then use powder and rinse with fabcon. That should take away any foul odor.

He might find it's the perfume rather than the enzymes in bio detergent than exacerbates his eczema. Might be worth trying a supermarket own brand bio as they are less strongly perfumed? I suggest this as bio detergent works better at low temperatures than non bio.
