I don’t even know if this is in the right place but I need help before I love my mind!

Basically everytime I do a dark wash the clothes come out smelling funny, like damp with no washing powder smell. The whites on the other hand come out smelling lovely and fresh Hmm
I’ve cleaned all the machine with every bastard thing on the market to no fucking avail!! Angry so I bought a brand new machine all was going well for a few weeks and guess what? The smell is back!!
What the fuck is this smell, how can I stop it and please tell me someone else has experienced this as all my family think I’m making it up! That is until they smell the washing Blush

I cannot bear the thought of a mixed load, but I’m going to have to bite the bullet!

So you never separate? Colour catcher sheets actually work? Shock

I am sure that you well across these OP but just in case...

One of the places most likely to contribute smells is the flexible seal that links the suspended drum to the fixed door. As it has to be highly flexible it can have hidden folds that catch lint, small items and dirt that can then smell. These folds need regular checks and cleans.

Making sure that the garments are taken out of the machine promptly after washing is crucial. They should then be separated and dried in the appropriate way for each garment without delay. Smells set in really quite quickly.

I am not sure if it will cause a smell but the pump filter needs a regular clean.

With washing machines now being ultra efficient they don't use much water. This can lead to clothes getting less time submerged and, as the detergent tends to collect in the bottom, reduce the wash effectiveness. You therefore might find that more water helps. Some machines have an extra water setting but if not then delicate programmes washes often use more water - to stop the clothes crashing as much.

UPDATE:
So I'm the original poster and I've only gone and cracked it!

So basically the waste pipe wasn't draining away properly so that was the cause of it all! It was at a near horizontal angle instead of having a big dip of that makes sense?
Darks smelt because they're generally heavier and hold more water than lights do!
Oh I feel like a washing god RN my year of hell is overrrrrrrrr Grin
