We have silestone 'marengo' (basically a dark grey gloss with a tiny fleck) worktops in our kitchen. Looks lovely on the one hand but on the other is proving a nightmare to keep looking nice. Very high maintenance. It seems to mark very easily and whilst stains do gradually fade over time (rings from drinking glasses, tiny splashes of liquid like wine, apple juice, butter etc will stain unless wiped instantly) they just kind of 'sit' under the glossy surface of the worktop once it's been wiped and buffed, so even though the surface always looks clean and glossy you can see the stains when light shines onto it. We also have a lot of watermark stains around the sink area (see photo of a normal part of the worktop, and another showing the watermarked area around the draining grooves).
Hindsight being the wonderful thing that it is, I think we made a bad choice of colour - have seen lighter coloured (grey/cream/white) silestone in other kitchens that seems to be a LOT less high maintenance than our dark one and a lot more forgiving in terms of not showing stains. But hey ho. We are where we are. Live and learn and all that.
But - does anyone have any magic tips for getting rid of the limestone watermarks at least? So far I have tried an E cloth, the Cif cream recommended by the worktop company, a Tesco brand stone cleaner...all of which promise to clean off limescale and buff to a beautiful shine...and all of which haven't worked. (Admittedly the Tesco stone cleaner has got the island stains looking better so I will persevere with that one). I haven't tried Barkeepers Friend yet but that is next on my list...
Any other magic solutions I have yet to try?
