How often do you top up your rinse aid in your dishwasher?

Just that really. Had my dishwasher for a few months now so not really sure what to expect. I seem to be filling it up (to the top) every 4-5 washes...is that normal? Seems a lot to me but I could be wrong....

Really depends on where you live and how hard your water is - we're in Scotland where the water is super soft and I never use separate rinse aid or salt, just tablets.

Kidsarekarma · 13/10/2017 08:12

Never. I don't use salt either as I use tablets.
I live in a hard water area but dishwasher instructions (Bosch) said just all in one tablets are fine and that's what I've done for the last 15 years here with no problems.

Meepmoop · 13/10/2017 08:13

We use all in one tablets to, saves the faff

Kidsarekarma · 13/10/2017 08:13

Sorry, pressed post too soon - meant to add that I don't buy expensive tablets either, I find Aldi's are the best.

calamityjam · 13/10/2017 08:14

Never. Just use 3 in one tablets never had a problem and been doing so for years

PurplePillowCase · 13/10/2017 08:16

never
all in one tablets...
have to top up salt every month though as hard water area

Hulder · 13/10/2017 08:19

When the light comes on. And not before that - about every few weeks.

Much cheaper than 3 in 1 tablets and apparently even with those you are supposed to use salt and rinse aid so I couldn't see the point.

Smurfy23 · 13/10/2017 08:21

Thanks Hulder. Light came on after 5 washes last night. Starting to think somethings not quite right with it!

Have you maybe got the rinse aid dispenser set too high so that it's using far more than you need?

Roomba · 13/10/2017 09:41

I use all in one tablets so never. My mother told me I should still use rinse aid but the other replies here have convinced me that I'm in the right not doing so.

EcoCleaner · 13/10/2017 09:51

Whenever the light comes on. Usually takes about 6 weeks. Have you fully topped up the dispenser?

Orangebird69 · 13/10/2017 09:53

Have you fully topped it up? That sounds too often to me.

Smurfy23 · 13/10/2017 09:55

Definitely fill to the top. Will try to see if i can change how much is used to see if that solves it otherwise will get the repairman out before the warranty expires! Thanks!

Ours has a little dial thing in the rinse aid section to set how much is used. I have ours on number 3, I think. Seems to work well

4yoniD · 14/10/2017 19:20

What make? I have a hotpoint and it constantly asks to be topped up with rinse aid. Dispense level is set to low. Last time it took 2 days for the light to come back on and when I tried to add more it was full still, so I guess mine is knacked.

Smurfy23 · 14/10/2017 19:32

Yeah its hotpoint...we've canged settings so will see how it goes. Im sure it wasnt like this when we got it first!

All in one tablets are a con. You still need salt and rinse aid.

Wilkinson sell the lot for cheap.

simonthedog · 14/10/2017 22:12

never

80sMum · 14/10/2017 22:14

Mine seems to need topping up about every 3 or 4 washes.

Hulababy · 15/10/2017 09:04

Always used all in one tablets and never had an issue with them. Never used salt or rinse aid in the years I've owned a dishwasher.

MongerTruffle · 15/10/2017 09:05

You need to top up the rinse aid when your dishes start to get water droplets on them after washes.

Almostthere15 · 16/10/2017 19:32

I don't bother with rinse aid (use all in ones) but i live in a hard water area and do use salt. Prior to that I had two dishwashers last less than 2 years each. The engineer that came to condemn the second said you should always use salt. So I do, but I don't really know why.

wowfudge · 17/10/2017 06:44

We never use salt or rinse aid. All in one tablets in our house and we live in a very soft water area - it just isn't necessary to buy rinse aid and salt.
