I've been looking at the on in Argos at half price (now £59.99), but I'm not sure if it is good enough.
It's a Vax 530 watts Capacity of clean water tank 2.6 litres Capacity of dirty water tank 2.4 litres.

I'm worried about the 530 watts, is this enough, will the suction be powerful enough?

We can't really afford to spend any more money, but I'd rather wait a bit longer and save up than buy something rubbish IYKWIM.

We have carpets thoughout the flat and I suffer from dustmite allergy so need it for regular cleaning, but also because we are about to start potty training and I'm sure there will be "little accidents" LOL.

Any experts out there to advise me?

Thanx in advance

My friend just bought a VAX upright one for £200 and her carpets look fantastic - just like new !

I had a Bissel (Heat Pro) and it broke after 3 yrs ocassional use and Bissel didn't want to know. It ended up at the dump - so I will buy a Vax if I get another one !

BigCremeEggs · 06/04/2007 10:21

if you do want to buy summat expensive..its worth paying an insurance on it too as we had the old bissel heat pro and it was getting broke all the time so we ended up getting a brand new bissel heat pro before Xmas (as they designed it alot better than the original one) and had no problems at all with it.

JiminyCricket · 06/04/2007 10:34

I've got a Bissel £179 from Lakeland. I love it but then I've only used it twice so far so don't know about long term.

BigCremeEggs · 06/04/2007 10:46

this is the one we've got

BUT ive never had a VAX cleaner

Hilllary · 06/04/2007 10:47

Oh no not Vax honestly I have had two vax carpet cleaners and they dont last long at all.

The bisstel is the best you can buy

archiesmummy · 06/04/2007 10:52

Ok, I've never heard of Bissel before, so will have a look.
I have only ever used Kärcher before but they are silly expensive .

But everyone agrees you need to spend at least £200 to get a decent one???

I had an older Bissell - the first Pro Heat model that must have come out in about 2001/2002 - it did fab cleaning but was unrepairable after it broke ! It was good when it worked though !

Agree totally about insuring it !

£200 sounds expensive - but if you compare it with the cost of having someone in to do it for you, it's about £35 per room here - so you soon repay the outlay !

However - you can hire a Rug Doctor for about £30 from dry-cleaners, and they clean very well and you don't have to store them ! I did that last time and was very pleased with the results !

glassslipper · 06/04/2007 10:57

i bought a bissell for about £130 and its brilliant

archiesmummy · 06/04/2007 10:59

I've just had a look at Bissels website. Is it worth looking at the reconditioned ones? Are they a bargain or will they just break quicker?
Sorry about all the questions.

well its up to you but theres no insurance on it though BUT there will be a 12m guarantee on it (best to check if its 12m)

bubbles4 · 06/04/2007 16:34

ive got this vax and it does get the carpets clean, but ive only had it since christmas and used it three times so no idea how durable it is.

JARM · 06/04/2007 16:54

I got a brand new bissel quickwash from ebay for about £70. It is fab, we love it, and with 2 toddlers and another on the way, it has saved the carpets from the depths of despair.

JARM · 06/04/2007 16:58

this one but mine was cheaper?!

I have a vax (black cylinder one) and have used it for 6 years every few months. Thought it was OK and the water that came off it was always manky. But 2 weeks ago I treated myself to a Bissell Proheat 2x select (£235 from Costco). It's brushes seemed to lift a lot of the carpet fluff which was a bit worrying, but it looks none the worse for that. But the results are amazing. Cream carpet now looks new again, pile lifted and fluffy. It's taken out all the general traffic dirt and all the stains - including old ones that the vax didn't clean properly. It uses a lot of shampoo though and you have to use the bissell stuff to stay in warranty. Though I know of people that water it down a bit. Also, the tank holds very little water/dirty water so you need to empty often. Though this is actually more convenient than lugging the giant tanks for the vax around.
