It's never ending!!!!

I have two small children 2 and 7 months and I just feel housework is never ending. Once I have sorted out one end of the house another area needs tidying or sorting or cleaning it's just constant.

I have tried decluttering so less crap to sort out but still so much crap to sort out.

Any tips please from mums or ladies who have it all together

Honestly, don't worry about it until they're in school. Also baby toys take up so much room. Toys are more contained as they get older.

Tidying up when you have small dc is like sweeping snow when it's still snowing.
So I have been told.
And I am sticking to it. .
Grin
Tip from me - don't bother clearing up til just before tea time.
Less chance of a re-mess up!
Bath then bed and place still tidy!

In the evening I just used to throw everything into the playroom and shut the door. As long as I had a toy free sitting room to relax in at night I was OK. I didn't worry about the state of the house during the day.

Ironing was minimal when they were young. Kitchen and bathroom were kept clean but other housework was kept to a minimum.

BusyBee2017 · 15/09/2017 15:15

Thanks guys very useful.

Yeah we have made the sunroom his toy room which he hardly plays in! I'm thinking of selling some stuff because he does not play with his toys.

Yes I do the same throw his toys in playroom so house is free of toys.

Kitchen is a right state all the time...i just can't seem to keep it clear of clutter....always piles of stuff everywhere lol.

I have changed weekly clean to two weekly by doing one room a day and then every Other day sweep. Seems more manageable spreading housework over two weeks but obviously kitchen is everyday along with tidying beds and bathroom sink and toilet quick clean.

  1. I have long had a definite rule to tidy up the downstairs every night - to go to bed leaving it looking decent so you can start your day with it uncluttered. Don't worry about it during the day, but at least with a proper nightly clear-up, it never gets too bad.
  2. I also have a 20 minute morning tidy - empty bins, make beds, put away any laundry, hang up towels, bring down cups etc. Do both every single day and don't relax til you've done them. As for paperwork, bills, school clutter, just deal with it as it comes in, right away that minute. Need a cheque? Write a cheque and put it in the bookbag. Bill to pay? Do it now, online. It might not be as time efficient as saving it up and doing it all in a batch, weekly or fortnightly, but at least it gets done and not forgotten / overlooked. It works for me; I often feel overwhelmed with the amount of time I spend tidying up, but at least I have a tidy house and go to bed not feeling overwhelmed with mess.

Watching for advice. Have a 3 and 1 yr old here and exactly the same. House is a shit tip and always looking for things or tripping over them. We are lucky to have quite a big house but no proper storage and a lot of open plan space so the clutter just spreads....

BusyBee2017 · 23/09/2017 00:12

Oh we the last two weeks i have decided to clean the house on a fortnightly rota which is working great with two small kids and the house is tidy.

So everyday i will do the norm of tidy beds and tidy clutter upstairs in the morning and tidy clutter every evening downstairs. Kitchen i do every day.

The rest of the days i spread each room out as follows:

  1. Monday: WC & Porch
  2. Tuesday: Sinks, Toilets, Laundry & Sweep & Mop
  3. Wednesday: Laundry Room & Paper tray
  4. Thursday: Sinks, Toilets, Laundry & Sweep
  5. Friday: Garage
  6. Saturday: Sinks, Toilets, Laundry & Sweep
  7. Sunday: Playroom
  8. Monday: Sinks, Toilets, Laundry, Hoover, Mop
  9. Tuesday: Bathroom
10. Wednesday: Sinks, Toilets, Laundry & Sweep 11. Thursday: Bedrooms 12. Friday: Sinks, Toilets, Laundry & Sweep 13. Saturday: Under stairs closet & Lounge 14. Sunday: Sinks, Toilets, Laundry & Sweep

This way everything like toilets and kitchen stay fresh and clean. I will spend no longer than 30 mins on the fortnightly clean- quick and cheerful and no worries if I don't so it because it will come around again.

I always used to find sweeping and mopping a HUGE chore! Hated it with a passion. But I picked up a cordless vacuum off shpock for £10 And it's the best thing I've bought for this house! Floors are clean all the time and my 2 year old does it too because it's so lightweight and he loves vacuums! Might as well train him up Hey lol

I'm a lot more relaxed now and can also do other organising stuff whilst looking after two small kids.

Clearing up clutter is quick especially when there is a space for everything. With your open plan living as long as you have plenty of storage solutions and a place for everything it will make your life easier.

Best way to manage toys is to keep them in lots of SMALL boxes on a high shelf - so only one thing comes down at a time.

The memory of the sound of lego tipping out onto a tiled floor and scattering to the far corners in the evening when you have tidied up, bathed and fed them still brings me out in hives....

What you need is a "Rack of Organisation" engages the little loves into hanging up thier own coats and shoes. Follow this link to read more www.finestthings.co.uk/product/the-rack-of-organisation/

Having kids is great, it's the clearing up that's not so fun.
