DIY dishwasher tabs

I signed up for Amazon subscribe and save for my dishwasher tabs the other day without realising that they don't come via prime. I ordered on Saturday with the hope that they would be here today but they won't be delivered until the weekend. I'm loathe to buy a packet when I have a packet coming but I'm down to 3 tablets and it's only Monday! Can I DIY them? I'm assuming washing up liquid would just create a kitchen-engulfing quantity of bubbles so I won't try that!

I would just break the ones you have in half or even run the dishwasher without on a hot cycle. I've done this lots of times by mistake and not noticed the difference.

I have no idea how you would go about that without potentially creating a foam tsunami. I'd just buy some if I were you.

...or wash up by hand Grin

LapdanceShoeshine · 11/09/2017 16:26

I'd buy a pack anyway - you can keep them in reserve for next time this happens

Have you got Aldi, lidl, home bargains or B&M anywhere near?

FluffyNinja · 11/09/2017 16:26

Or just wash the pots...by hand... in the sink...?

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 11/09/2017 16:27

Just buy a packet. They don't go off so you'll just end up buying the next lot later Confused

Or break them in half and use a smaller measure of powder?

I couldn't be doing with the faff of diy when you can just buy some!".

I've done just plates and glasses on a hot wash without a tablet, then tablet in the following wash when I didn't want to buy more tablets before flying out of the country.

My dishwasher loves Aldi tablets- they work far better than Fairy/finish etc and are sooo much cheaper

cakesandphotos · 11/09/2017 16:43

We're in the middle of nowhere so our local shop only has super expensive ones and I won't be in town before my delivery comes.
I'm also allergic to washing up (not really, I just hate it with an unreasonable passion and the fact that this house had a built is dishwasher was its main selling point Grin)

Hot wash is the way to go, thanks! Smile

Cut them in half. I do this anyway and it always cleans fine.

Hunkle · 11/09/2017 17:03

For future reference I use Tesco Value ones & they are fab.

It is true that stuff comes out pretty clean without one (mine sometimes get stuck on top of something or the flap doesn't open properly & they're certainly clean enough)

You could give anything greasy or sticky a soak in water with some washing up liquid before loading, just to make sure Smile
