DH has ruined our Le Crueset...

Yes, I know, first world problems, but I'm Angry and Sad...

DH must be having a mid-life crisis because he's suddenly started getting a bit 'foodie'.

Got given a bag of apples by a neighbour and decided he was going to make some apple chutney. First time he's ever tried this...

I try to avoid getting involved in his kitchen projects (!) but IMHO he had over-filled two of our Le Crueset casseroles and left them bubbling away on the hob while he was sitting in another part of the kitchen watching stuff on his ipad Hmm

I went in once and said 'you'd better keep stirring these occasionally' and was told 'I know, thanks' and then later I popped my head round the door and asked if all was OK as I could smell a slightly acrid smell.
Anyway... turns out he let it burn and the bottom of both casseroles was thick and black with burnt sugar. Soaked overnight and nothing changed. Then boiled up with washing powder and most of it has come off, but it has left pitted marks/holes in the enamel in both.

They were wedding presents from my parents (now dead) so I am a bit Sad and Angry

Brew Cake

That's so annoying. Might they still be useable? Too late for this time but I read that rubbing pineapple on burnt on/stained enamel removes it easily. I wonder if anywhere could repair the enamel - not sure what the enamelling process involves.

Oddbutnotodd · 11/09/2017 15:23

I have lost a bit of enamel on my 26 year old pan and still use it.

FinallyHere · 11/09/2017 15:25

I'm sure he will replace them...

Oblomov17 · 11/09/2017 15:38

This would really get on my nerves. Especially as you had prompted him.

AlternativeTentacle · 11/09/2017 15:42

My OH does this - starts cooking and then wanders off. I don't hang around the kitchen checking on stuff for fun! It is to stop stuff burning.

I'd also never do chutney in a le Crueset, that's what a jam pan is for.

Oh dear. I can see why you'd be annoyed and upset.

Mine are very worse for wear after 20+ years of marriage as am I , but I see the black craters in mine as a source of extra iron in our diets.

Ltb.
Or kill him and cook him in the described pot. .

Giraffey1 · 11/09/2017 17:02

My STBExH does this with the slow cooker my mum gave me. He overfills it so that the contents boil over - they get between the ceramc pot and the metal 'holder' and the whole thing is the very devil to clean. Which of course, he never does.

Hope your pots are still useable.

You could contact Le Creuset and see if they will repair or replace (they have a Lifetime Guarantee).

No wonder you are upset though as that wasn't an accident it was just 'can't be bothered/don't care', with a bit of 'if I ignore it long enough the wife will take over and do it for me' thrown in for good measure.
