Ecover

Which Ecover products are worth getting? I've just bought some of their washing up liquid and it seems pretty effective and smells nice. Wondering about how effective their laundry products are, I seem to recall some negative comments on here about them. Are Method meant to be better?

The bathroom cleaner, toilet cleaner, window and glass cleaner and multi surface spray are all fantastic.

The fabric softeners are good but the laundry stuff makes a lot of foam and is difficult to rinse out

msrisotto · 10/09/2017 14:36

I wouldn't buy the washing liquid unless I had to. As it is unscented, it doesn't feel like it gets the clothes nicely clean...no fresh smell on them.

rabbit123 · 10/09/2017 15:03

Just because something doesn't have an overpowering chemical smell doesn't mean it isn't clean. I'd rather use Ecover than something like Surf or Bold that absolutely stinks but doesn't clean very well

TefalTester123 · 10/09/2017 15:08

The stain remover is fantastic, the best ever on grass and comes in a large bottle with an applicator brush.

GogoGobo · 10/09/2017 15:13

I use the toilet cleaner and washing up liquid - both are excellent. I cannot wean myself off persil non bio though for the clothes!

msrisotto · 10/09/2017 15:15

I like my clothes to smell like they've been washed.

inchyrablue · 10/09/2017 15:17

I can't use the laundry range, but everything else is good apart from the dish washer tablets, which the dishwasher repair man told me to stop using. He claimed that most of his dishwasher calls were to people using them, and they just clog up the innards of the machine.

I particularly like their washing up liquid.

AlternativeTentacle · 10/09/2017 15:22

I don't use Ecover - apart from dishwasher tabs. I use Splosh products - you buy the first starter set and get refills through the post. They are all natural, not tested on animals and I've been using them for years.

My code is A84889 if you want to get a starter kit.

They smell glorious and they work.

rabbit123 · 10/09/2017 15:25

msrisotto they will smell clean regardless of what you use. You don't need heavy, artificial scents for something just to smell clean.

Jeffjefftyjeff · 10/09/2017 15:30

I use the washing liquid and it's just fine - just got a load of football gear out of the machine that went in stinking and filthy that has come out clean and fresh smelling! mine is definitely (lightly) scented so maybe they do two versions?

Samsara123 · 10/09/2017 16:07

I use their All Purpose cleaner in my bathroom and for freshening up carpet after cat puking. Lovely lemon fragrance.

msrisotto · 10/09/2017 16:13

Agree to disagree rabbit. When I used ecover, I was never sure the clothes had been properly cleaned.

suchatiredbunny · 10/09/2017 18:36

We've used the dishwasher tablets and rinse aid for years. Worth getting if you can find it is the limescale Remover which is fab for the glass in the shower (we have hard water!)

PurplePillowCase · 10/09/2017 18:40

the washing up liquid is great. nice scent and it works really well.
the bio washing powder is great as well, but often only available in special eco shops or online,
the laundry softener is also nice.

Oncewaswho · 10/09/2017 18:59

The toilet cleaner and stain remover are great, just bought a box of the laundry tablets, hoping the fragrance is mild to non-existent. I find Method laundry liquid far too strongly fragranced.

onalongsabbatical · 10/09/2017 19:04

Seconding that the limescale remover is bloody marvellous. Hard to get, I agree - I get it in bulk from Amazon! Magic on watermarks and scaly taps and sinks and the shower door etc. Yes, to the washing up liquid, too, and I quite like the all purpose cleaner. We get the washup liquid re-filled in a five litre plastic tub/bottle thing at our local green shop and decant it into an ancient bottle, so further saving on extra plastics.

DandelionAndBedrock · 10/09/2017 19:14

I like Ecover for dishes (especially the Rinse Aid) and Method for Laundry - the fresh air one doesn't have an overpowering smell, but I haven't tried the new ones. I prefer Method handsoap too.

I tend to do a big online shop using Big Green Smile to get the harder to find stuff, then top up when I do an Ocado shop for the things that they stock.

Ladybird909 · 10/09/2017 19:17

I have used the washing liquid and fabric softener for ages and never had a problem with clothes not being clean. I personally like the fact that clothes don't have an artificial smell, whenever I have clothes in the house that have been washed by someone else for whatever reason, the smell seems really strong to me.

I actually don't follow the recommended doses either, I tend to only use one capful for a full load and proportionally less if it's not a full load and even though it's a hard water area here it's never been a problem.

Brittbugs80 · 10/09/2017 20:15

Method clothes liquid has only just come into our Sainsbury's. I'm desperate to try it but I'm struggling with the £10 price tag.

I'm using Ecover fab softener at the minute, seems ok but I'm struggling for a nice smelling less chemically filled powder.

TheDuchessOfKidderminster · 11/09/2017 11:36

AlternativeTentacle thank you for the Splosh recommendation, I'm actually very tempted by them as I'm finding that my recycling bin gets full very quickly and I can also stock up on refills without needing to find loads of storage space.

Ocado's got loads of offers on Ecozone atm.

Cakescakescakes · 11/09/2017 12:33

I like the Under the Sun fabric softener and the dishwasher all in one tabs work fine too. I'm trying to change all my cleaning products etc over to more eco brands. I like the Method sunny citrus anti bac spray for the kitchen too.
