How to wash curtains?

Hi
Can anyone advise me as to how to wash curtains? They are lined and heavy thick blackout.
Long story short
Moved into a property and the curtains have never been washed I have taken them down to wash there is no tag in them at all.
I know from previous experience putting some in the washing machine is not a good idea (I shrunk the curtains and lengthened the lining 😳) but would they be ok on a mild/delicate wash??
Or hand wash?
Don't want to shrink them or ruin them?
Any advice greatly appreciated

Dry clean only, generally, but that is very expensive. If they don't actually smell or look grubby I'd vacuum them and then febreeze or air on an outside line.

Use the upholstery attachment on your vacuum cleaner.

I'll give the dry cleaners a call and see how much they charge.
See if it's worth it.
If not just a good old hoover will have to do.
Thanks for your advice

Dry clean only.

Dry clean - but be warned, all the places I checked with charged by weight. Our curtains get aired and hoovered but I'm not spending as much cleaning them as it would cost to buy another pair!

It can be cheaper to get someone who cleans sofas/carpets to do them in situ than take them to dry cleaners. About £40 per pair here rather than at least £70 at dry cleaners.
