How to remove strong 'chemical' smell from new ottoman

Hi I have never posted a thread before but I am a long term lurker lol I bought an ottoman yesterday from Argos to store spare duvets, towels and sheets in, however the inside of the ottoman has a very strong chemical smell which I know if I store clean things in it will end up taking on the smell, I tried to wipe it down inside and out last night with white vingegar and water solution and leave it out over night outside to air off open, this morning it still smells of the chemical smell and was wondering if anyone had any ideas of how to get rid of the smell? It's made from faux leather and has material lining on the inside.

It's the fake leather that smells - I'm guessing the smell is the same as you get in a shoe shop selling mostly non-leather shoes. Try opening it and leaving it outside in daylight to air thoroughly as sunlight can help or putting a bowl of bicarb in it and leaving it closed for at least overnight.

You could also try a solution of bio washing powder to wash the inside with and making sure you do the inside of the lid too. The enzymes and perfume may help.

I don't think the smell is the fake leather it's a different smell to the outside where the fake leather is, I think it may be whatever it was glued together with as it's the interior not the exterior that has the awful chemical smell. I will try the bicarb tip and also the washing powder thanks

I think you are right about it being the glue.

I would leave it propped open for a few days to let the air circulate, leave the window open too for fresh air.

It's definitely something like the glue, it's a potent smell and the actual faux leather on the outside doesn't smell anything like the odour that the inside is emitting, I think it's what they call off gassing (I googled lol) so I have propped it up open in the spare bedroom with the window open and fan on as the weather is damp here outside, I will still try bicarb aswell tomorrow when I pick up some, the white vinegar soloution did absolutely nothing for it. Hopefully I can get rid of the smell eventually otherwise it's no good for storing clean bedding in as it will just end up with that strong odour on anything that's stored inside.

Did you find a solution? I bought two from Aldi and they smell disgusting and far worse than the Argos one I bought, thanks
